I personally would like to see all entries in the database ordered alphabetically first by genus and then by species. Today I was looking to add a picture to Ficus auriculata but did not see it in the initial line-up of Ficus species. The list on the first page of Ficus entries reads as follows - and I find it hard to find order in this. What do you all think? Alii Ficus (Ficus maclellandii 'Alii') Chinese Banyan (Ficus microcarpa 'Tiger Bark') Creeping Ficus (Ficus pumila) Golden Gate Ficus (Ficus microcarpa 'Golden Gate') Ficus (Ficus macrophylla subsp. columnaris) Wonderboom Fig (Ficus neriifolia) Chinese Banyan (Ficus microcarpa 'Green Island') Chinese Banyan (Ficus microcarpa 'Green Mound') Miniature Ficus (Ficus benjamina 'Natasha') Ficus (Ficus antihetophylla) Creeping Ficus (Ficus pumila 'Minima') Loquat Leaf Fig (Ficus saussureana) Narrow leaf fig tree (Ficus binnendykii) Ficus (Ficus abelii) Ficus (Ficus abscondita) Ficus (Ficus abutilifolia) Ficus (Ficus acanthocarpa) Ficus (Ficus acanthophylla) Ficus (Ficus acarouaniensis) Ficus (Ficus acreana) |
That's not the first page of the Ficus entries, Hettie. It's the results of your search for Ficus. The first page is "orderly." http://garden.org/plants/brows... |

riiiiight.... thanks for pointing that out; so I wonder why my search for Ficus dished up such a hodgepodge ![]() |
If you just search for ficus, it gives you a natural "best match" search that is NOT sorted and cannot be sorted. It's like Google searches - they aren't alphabetical. But at the top of your search, if you search for a genus, it gives you a link to view all plants in that genus. And that page, as zuzu pointed out, are nicely and properly sorted. |

ok, so I should just learn to search in a more orderly fashion ![]() Thanks for the explanation, now I understand better! |

I ran into the same problem Hetty, until Dave us the view all plants in that genus feature. I just love that feature. ![]() |

I agree, I guess I was also just still finding my way around all the features of the database. |
