Found 8 hardy shrub roses at Lowes on the bargain rack ($7 ea):

Rosa 'BAIcham' Easy Elegance® Champagne Wishes™, Rosa 'BAIset' Easy Elegance® Sunrise Sunset™, Rosa 'BAIrift' Easy Elegance® Snowdrift™, Rosa 'BAIief' Easy Elegance® Little Mischief™, Rosa 'BAIypso' Easy Elegance® Calypso™, Rosa 'BAIrage' Easy Elegance® All The Rage™, Rosa rugosa 'Dwarf Pavement', Rosa rugosa 'Schneekoppe' Snow Pavement

6 of the 8 are from Bailey Nursery (modern) and 4 of those were patented and developed by Peter Lim. Not sure who developed the 2 un-patented . Anybody have any experience with these roses?

And, a couple of the 1980s rugosa Pavement series roses developed in Germany.

All of the roses were in 2.5 gal pots and in great shape. Here is Sunrise Sunset

Your Lowes is so much better than ours. All we are offered are Knockouts. I think I had the Rugosa Schneekoppe years ago, but I must have killed it.

I am the last person who should give advice about what will grow for you in Michigan. If Nippstress sees this, maybe she can tell you a little more about what will grow in z5. I think that she has grown nearly all the Easy Elegance roses.

I have 3 Ping Lim roses. Of the roses you name, I am growing Little Mischief. I call it one of my honorary polyanthas because it blooms in flushes like a polyantha with fragrant clusters of dark pink/red and white blooms. It is super easy, grows in shade for me, is drought resistant, disease resistant at least to the strain(s) of blackspot we have here and is as close to carefree as any rose can be. It might be better in more sun but it still does fine where it is. It is winter hardy for me but that doesn't help you.

BTW your Lowes is terrific.

When I returned home after buying the roses, I received an email from Lowes about their 4th of July sale:) Their mulch was on sale and I needed mulch. The mulch was indeed on sale when I purchased the roses, I was just was not aware.

At any rate, yesterday I trekked back to Lowes (I live between the Adian and Ann Arbor Lowes, ~20 miles to either). Bought 30 bags of mulch and bought the one rose that I passed on.
