Jon and I would appreciate if y'all could post your Daylily of the Day lists to this thread: The thread "12th Daylily of the Day Poll (Closed)" in Daylilies forum

I read the evaluations all the time to determine whether I should acquire a certain cultivar or not. It is very helpful to read other's comments, opinions, and evaluations of any cultivar!
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

Blink of an Eye is blooming nice and early in my garden. This little miniature has small foliage as well as a tiny bloom. This was planted last September and came through our nasty winter and long, cold spring very well.

Have been discussing morning low temperatures over in the https://garden.org/thread/go/8...

my morning lows have been in the low to mid fifties and bloom has been pitiful. Today there are some nice blooms, low of 57.

I apologize for my repeats. There is a sort of unwritten rule that this thread is for FFO's. I treat it more as 'July 2018 Blooms' Big Grin
So here we go, with a step or two down memory lane;

See, I can do FFOs ... if I get them - and a poly to boot!
What the heck does 'to boot' mean?

SUNNY INTERVALS

I never thought that I would be so entranced by a yellow and orange daylily, it seems so mid-twentieth century. I love it!

This is a camera test. The exposure was set off of the daylily, that my newish camera recorded the blue is a good sign. If your display shows the richness of the blue, that is a good sign as well.

I wanted to plant a delphinium like this one with the violent orange California poppy from an earlier post but we are within ten miles of the airport and they said that because it would distract the pilots I couldn't.

And a bonus, we have two scapes six inches above the foliage

ED MURRAY FDFO (first decent flower open)

This is such a tough flower to photograph at least in my garden.

I took one shot, loaded it on to my iPad and thought; 'What a nice photo, but that's not ED MURRAY.' So I took the iPad out and compared it to the bloom.

Not close, so I went back out with my camera and started playing with some of the settings. I pushed the white balance, played with the exposure, and tried different angles, a little closer but not yet.

Back to the iPad and a photo manipulation app. I applied heavy adjustments to contrast, brightness, and color curves and finally ended up with this photo. It's still not as rich and velvety and black/red as the real thing but close.

My question to you is, where is the truth (other than unattainable,) do you prefer an original un-manipulated photo that is less accurate or a highly manipulated photo that looks closer to the actual flower?

Charlemagne,
"My question to you is, where is the truth (other than unattainable,) do you prefer an original un-manipulated photo that is less accurate or a highly manipulated photo that looks closer to the actual flower?"
I always prefer a photo that looks as much like the actual bloom in the garden. My choice would be to have a camera that allows for those pictures without any manipulation.
I do almost no editing on my photos, but some. I just don't have the patience for it, so most of my photos are "what you get is what you see". I might take ten different shots while in the garden of the same bloom, but then I just pick the best one. If I really messed up I might have to brighten or darken the photo a bit but that is all it gets. If none of the photos look decent then there is always tomorrow, except in rare occasions when I really need a good photo for a specific purpose.
The best photo of a bloom today, will not look like the bloom tomorrow...so as long as it is a good representation of what the bloom looks like sometimes I am happy.
