Several of these photos are not Parodia mictosperma, instead they are likely another hooked spine parodia, a suggestion being:

That being said, The photo from songofJoy seems to be correct.

You should do some more research on the different appearances of the Parodia microsperma varieties and subspecies. There are pictures under the straight up P. microsperma entry that fit this picture just fine.

I am only seeing 2 different plants under the regular P. microsperma entry. One is from Orsola and the other is from SongofJoy. I have no opinion about the ID, just trying to resolve the differences.

I see two different plants too. However looking at Ilife following the links to the other varieties of P. microsperma you can see pictures that look quite a lot like the pictures by Orsola.

......hey now, thats cheating. To quote baja, the species classification id is not the same lifle, like the ancistophora issue. That means, unless the id lists a lot of those different plants as different species , as the current issue ,other than microsperma, or has recognized them under a certain subspecies/cultivar name, they need to be classified as such. In a nutshell, if this weird photo is classified as a microsperma and not something with its own article, then its fine. However, i doubt that this is the case, since im pretty sure a lot of the species here are an older, more split up system.

On a somewhat related note, I have to say I was appalled when I looked at our Parodia entries. It appears that they haven't been updated since our database was launched in 2011, and many of the ones that were added then were already obsolete by that time. P. microsperma, for example, now has only two infraspecific taxa instead of the 12 currently listed in our database. I'll clean these up today.

Well, that was shocking! We had 204 entries and now we have 85. I added 4 new entries, so that means that 123 were synonyms, possibly invented names, or names that are so old that they're no longer even listed as synonyms in the taxonomic databases. Actually, all of them are still listed as accepted names in the Dave's Garden PlantFiles. Glare
