I probably wouldn't get as much done as most people, but I'd certainly get MORE done, if it weren't for fear of mosquitoes.

Still trying to play catch up on here. One of the good things about loosing my database is that I can act like I don't know how many irises I have. Whistling I know it was somewhere around 700 named varieties, a couple NOIDs, a few Sibs, around 400 seedlings, and a bunch of new ones coming this year. Maybe not having an accurate count is a good thing. It's going to take me all winter to re-make my data base. I probably should have put mine on the plant list here, but I like how I can re-aggregate the data on Excel. I should have backed it up though. (Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda) Crying It is nice to know that I don't have as many as some of you guys. Hilarious!

Tom ~ At first, when I started in on this forum, I rebelled at putting all my irises on "my list" here. Eventually it was quite obvious the advantage for using this online system. At times, I lack organization, and it is time-consuming to set systems in place. I also have notebooks in which I record the irises and their performance, parentage, etc. It has saved me a lot of trouble, because when I try to rely on my memory, it gets shorter every year! Hilarious! Whistling

I am looking into an additional database management system. Maybe Google Docs. Not sure yet.

Lucy, I had put all of the iris information on an Excel spread sheet on my computer, including name, date I got the iris, from whom, bed it's planted in, Hybredizer, etc. It's all gone. I also lost data on what irises I have sent to people on here, so I wouldn't send duplicates, all gone. I'm hoping to find a techy who can recover that for me. I can input much of the data again, although it will take many hours, some I won't remember, like the date I got them.

Tom ~ I have all that info on the NGA "my plant list". It was time-consuming in the beginning, but now it is a "permanent record". Making the notebooks, well, I am still working on them, as I have yet to enter all the new ones for this year. Did you save the invoices from your past purchases? That won't help you with your trades, though.

I hope that you will be able to recover your records, and consider putting the records onto "your NGA plant list". Glad you and your horses are OK! That is the main thing. Group hug

I am afraid, non techy that I am, my orders for each year are in a notebook. A few not received are crossed out. I have never known how to do a spreadsheet. Someone tried to teach me on pink SDB seedlings, but I have had to rely on memory. As I get older (now 83) I find my memory not as sharp & have my ordering notebook in hand. Many of the plants have gone to the club sale and I have my garden log in another book which shows which plants bloomed each year. Of course not everything bloomed. I also have my seedling book which lists crosses. This is also done in ball point pen. I came late to computers & while I can type I just am not dependent on it
