Below are two "after" pictures and one "before" picture of the office's mystery plant situation...can anyone identify what's growing on the edges of these leaves?

What started out as a mixed pot of succulents has become this. (A few months ago, a colleague sprinkled some unknown "seeds" into the soil--it may be that's what sparked these things). Rimming more and more leaves are tiny, lily-pad-like growths. They look like miniature leaves with dangling, hairy roots. What are they? Is it some disease or unwanted addition? Everyone's interested in guessing, but no one has any idea, and we're getting a little icked out by the rapidly-increasing number of them.

Please advise!

But why/is it OK they're growing on the EDGES of mother leaves?!

I'd expect new babies to come from the same brown dirt!

Certain Kalanchoes do this (I think there's two or three species-- @purpleinopp, can I pick your brain for Kalanchoes that grow babies on the edges of the leaves?). Lovey dubby

Huh! Thank you very much Hamwild and Semprevivumgrower...

Kalanchoe (just looked up how to pronounce that) is new to me!

Any/all information is welcome. Happy we don't have any office pet.

Undortunately, Kalanchoe is one succulent I don't grow well, so I'll leave the care instructions to someone else. @purpleinopp, hey kalanchoe queen! Sticking tongue out Do you have advice for growing kalanchoes?

I treat Kalanchoes like any other succulent water it about once a week or when the dirt gets too dry you can usually keep it inside but mine are outside and doing fine feel free to ask more questions!

Sure!
Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe daigremontiana)
Chandelier Plant (Kalanchoe delagoensis)
Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe rosei)
Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe 'Houghtonii')

These may not make babies unless/until a leaf is removed from the plant:
Lavender Scallops (Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi)
Marnier's Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe marnieriana)
Cathedral Bells (Kalanchoe pinnata)

"Donkey ears" seems to usually make 1 or 2 babies at the tip of each leaf.
Donkey Ears (Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri)

The plant in question looks like K. laetivirens: Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe laetivirens)
