I've been in Florida 50+ years and I've never heard of Apples growing here. I think they need a certain number of hours of winter chill/dormancy to thrive and although they may do well in the northernmost part of the state, I'm not sure they would survive or produce fruit in central and south Florida. Here's the listing for Gala Apple in our database Apple (Malus pumila 'Gala') Note the comment at the very bottom of the page showing the growing zone of 5 - 8. ~ I'm an old gal who still loves playing in the dirt! ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! |

There are certain things you can't grow in Florida. Apples are one of them. The overall heat is just way too much. Think of where our apple growing states are: New York, Michigan, Vermont, Oregon, Washington to name a few. You need to try citrus such as oranges, lime, grapefruit. The key to orchid growing is to match the orchid to your conditions. |

Well both of you dont know what the heck you are talking about. I live in central florida where it freezes every year AND my trees have produced apples. They sell a few different types of apple trees at all of the local stores like lowes, home depot and tractor supply. I also grow cherries and peaches we too, Oranges are being replaced with peaches here in florida since 70% of the crops were wiped out from greening,. |

Well, hopefully someone in Florida who DOES know what they are talking about will be along to offer help. Good luck with your apple tree. ![]() ~ I'm an old gal who still loves playing in the dirt! ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! |

Wow @Johnfin. You ask for help then shoot them down when given?? Not friendly! You will get all kinds of conflicting info when you ask for it especially a general question. Simply thank them for their suggestions and move on. Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love Truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you Smile. |
