portulaca ?? Saw this in the dog run this morning. It just pops up whever it pleases. It's the same as in the hanging basket pics I posted. I always thought it was portulaca, but in fact is it purslane? Need info/ID so it can be added to the DB![]() ![]() ![]() Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it. |
It's wild purslane! I am 99% sure. Going to get someone who will know for sure over here. Can you show me a photo of the blossom? Also: do not eat it since I am not 100% sure. ![]() ALL THINGS PLANTS ~ Garden Art ~ Purslane & Portulaca ~ MY CUBITS ~ Trust in the Lord ~ MY WEB SITE ~ Joyful Times Today |

OK...finally more pics. The first 3 are of the plant in question with the pink/rosey blooms. The others are wild purslane with the yellow blooms. Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it. |
Ginger, your first one is indeed portulaca. I have never seen the wild purslane. Thanks for sharing it here. ![]() ALL THINGS PLANTS ~ Garden Art ~ Purslane & Portulaca ~ MY CUBITS ~ Trust in the Lord ~ MY WEB SITE ~ Joyful Times Today |

So the plant in both sets of pictures with the pink/rosey blooms is portulaca?? as in wild portulaca...I did not plant it...not even in the pot in the 2nd. set of pics. It just pops up where it wants. Where in the DB would I add the wild purslane? IE:under which listing. It too just poped up in the pot it's pictured in. If you key in "wild purslane" into the database, for the wild purslane, I "think" you will choose the first one: Purslane Oleracea and the reason I think that is the others are "named" like what you would buy at a nursery. I don't know who the moderator is for purslane in the db, but if it's wrong, they will let you know, if not you'll get an acorn ![]() ![]() ALL THINGS PLANTS ~ Garden Art ~ Purslane & Portulaca ~ CUBITS ~ Trust in the Lord ~ Heart Strength ~ Find JOY at http://joyfultimestoday.com/ |

Cool link, Vicki...thanks ![]() As to the one with the pink/rosey blooms...where to add that. Doing a search for wild purslane OR wild portulaca there is overlappilg in the enteries. But then again, I could very well be doing something wrong. Not the brightest bulb when it comes to research/sleuthing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it. |

Was searching for a discussion about this plant and I think this is the only one. Hope nobody minds my dredging it back up, but I'm curious if your plant is still alive, Ginger? I've been fascinated with this plant since I noticed it growing in the cracks & edges of pavement a few years ago. Amazing plant, awesome cute native! So I grabbed a few pieces from the parking lot across the street last summer and have it in several pots now. Any morning with one or more of those miniscule pink flowers just cheers me up like no 'regular' flower can, weird. Like you did, I'm trying to get it to solidly cover the surface of taller potted plants that get a ton of sun. Maybe I will leave some of it alone somewhere long enough to look as amazing as your pic. Is it the kind of plant that ever has a bunch of flowers open at once? It's also cool for this kind of thing! ![]() 👀😁😂 - SMILE! -☺😎☻☮👌✌∞☯🐣🐦🐔🐝🍯🐾 The less I interfere, the more balance mother nature provides. 👒🎄👣🏡🍃🍂🌾🌿🍁❦❧ 🍃🍁🍂🌾🌻🌸🌼🌹🌽❀☀🌺 ☕👓 The only way to succeed is to try. |

Yes it is thriving...everywhere. I haven't been real good at the grass cutting, so I'm seeing lots more of it. Fine with me...I love the cheerful pink blooms too ![]() Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it. |

Oh that's cool to hear. There's not much info out there about this plant, or pics, I just love tiny plants. It's a slow thing getting such a tiny plant to reach enough mass to even be noticed... if you're anxious about it. Sounds like it's dropping seeds around your lawn? How tall can it get? How soft and pretty would a lawn of this stuff be?! Probably not up to the task of being walked on too often though. When I find seeds, I scatter them around the pot I'm trying to fill. Don't know that I've seen any sprouts yet, but only playing with this for the past year, starting with 3 little sprigs about 1 1/2 inches long. Probably growing a lot more quickly than I give credit for, it's probably in 10 different pots now. The yellow one in your pics above looks like a good candidate for a hanging basket. Are you into those? These tiny plants (Senecio citriformis) look almost ready to make some kind of tiny flowers. ![]() 👀😁😂 - SMILE! -☺😎☻☮👌✌∞☯🐣🐦🐔🐝🍯🐾 The less I interfere, the more balance mother nature provides. 👒🎄👣🏡🍃🍂🌾🌿🍁❦❧ 🍃🍁🍂🌾🌻🌸🌼🌹🌽❀☀🌺 ☕👓 The only way to succeed is to try. |
