I know people have been doing crosses and they hope they will have some winners. We go and give them names, which sometimes can be challenging. If you were to here one called prohibition, Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone, warp core breach, cloaking device what comes to your mind? Would it be color, form, number of blooms, rebloomer? |

When I hear Bonnie and Clyde a pink and blue flower comes to mind When I hear Al Capone a large flower comes to mind 🌿A weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered🌿 |

I would say it would be any one of those. To me, I guess it depends on what word it is - I'll use an example. 'Spiced Custard' is an iris I have recently began to love, but when I hear 'Spiced Custard,' I think of a deep reddish-maroon colour, or white with splotches of red or something of the sort. I see and don't see the name 'Spiced Custard' or, at least the imagery or colours that come to mind with it. However, tall bearded Dragon Flight looks quite what I'd expect when I hear that tag. - though, my imagination gives Dragon Flight black instead of white falls. ![]() ![]() ![]() SDB Stop and Stare |

Warp Core Breach would definitely be a space age luminata.. The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us. |

I could see why Spiced Custard was named such. The falls remind me of a warm fall spices and the standard looks like custard. 🌿A weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered🌿 |

Cloaking Device makes me think of a green hued bloom. Bonnie and Clyde, a bloom that wants to steal the show. Prohibition, an alcohol scented bloom. |

I was thinking the same thing Robin for warp core one. For prohibition I was thinking something like Tango amigo. |
Warp Core Breach would be a luminata. Cloaking Device would be something that blended in/didn't stand out, most likely green. (You're not a Trekkie by any chance?) I did watch the next generation, voyager and deep space nine. I did not get into the last one. Also liked quantum leap. |
I'm definitely a Trekkie. Watched all five series (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise). Haven't seen Discovery. New JJ Abrams films are okay sci-fi, but not Star Trek. Also enjoyed Quantum Leap. Quantum leap was one of the best things to come out of the late 80's early 90's. There are a few daylilies with star trek themed names like Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Spocks Ears') If I remember correctly one member here has a star trek themed garden with a bunch of Trekkie named plants. I guess the fans are die hard fans nothing wrong with that just not my thing ![]() 🌿A weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered🌿 |

Perry Dyer named for a wonderful irisarian (1/4 aril) To those who know him, he died of a 2nd heart attack this weekend & will be terribly missed. |

Sad news to hear we have lost another hybridizer. I did not know him but the iris world will miss him. I grow Mr. Dyer's Star of Africa and Serenity Prayer. I lost my favorite of his Wizard of ID and will replace it if i ever get a chance. His irises enrich my life. Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing? |
