Christine, how cool ... Love the Owl and oh my, that's a lot of hummingbirds visiting your backyard! Thumbs up I haven't seen a hummer in over a month but once the weather cools down, I'm sure they'll be heading back south. I hear Owls sometimes in the evening and at night but have yet to get a picture of one!

I love the owl too! One of my and my husband's favorite birds. We often hear them hear and get a glimpse once in a while but never a photo.

These owls are something!! Last year we saw a whole family of them really close to the house on a regular basis. They make amazing sounds and the young ones sound very strange, sort of like hissing. If you've never heard them, here's a good site with the sounds: https://journeynorth.org/tm/sp...

The hummers are busy visiting the Monarda, Perovskia, Buddleia, and of course the feeders. Here are some photos to brighten your day.

I haven't been out in the Parkway much in the past two months, but, despite the humidity and overcast I gave it a try today. Not much activity today, the Little Lehigh was running a foot or more high.
However, just before the reverse curve, I did spot Whitey (one of the hybrid Mallards):
Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/a6641f
I did spot one of the Herons (JR) about thirty five feet up in a tree, which he was disinclined to leave:

None-the-less, he did assume a number of different poses:

This went on for over an hour, before JR assumed the one-leg stance, which indicates the show is over! So, I headed for home (More to follow).

(Continuing from my last post)
After JR had worn out my patience, I headed back downstream. Feathered friends were very few and far between. I almost took the road up the hill, but, instead, stuck to the bridal path. Just past the Robin Hood Bridge, I caught a bit of movement in the stream; a juvenile Merganser: Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/ade15d
The duck moved onto the far bank and, perhaps realizing it had been slim pickings that day, put on a bit of a wing flapping display:
Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/65f888 Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/c868db Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/5ee355

Then, it was back into the water: Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/f9eafa
Our little duck flew off and I trudged on. As I got to the top of the hill, near my block, a good sized bird flew past at low level; "What was that?" Then, I noticed the back of a bulky body in a tree. It flew off after one blurry image. As I crossed the road, I glanced back and noticed some activity back at the tree line; the bird again! It was bouncing up and down and then retreated a bit into the woods before coming back to the edge and pausing briefly:

Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/114101
It then flew off for good: Thumb of 2018-09-12/marsrover/df7faf
But, What kind of bird of prey was it? Another UFFO!
