As some of you may have gathered, I did not get into the Parkway very often in July and August. And when I did, there weren't a lot of feathered friends around. Particularly frustrating, was the absence of the Herons. In desperation, on 3 September I resorted to cheating. Instead of heading out on foot into the Parkway, I drove my rental car to the Fireman's Bridge parking lot, about a quarter of a mile downstream of the trout nursery! I chatted briefly with the fellow running the Fly Shop. He said that he had seen Herons earlier, but they had flown downstream. Even so, I headed for the stream and before taking twenty steps, there, on the opposite side of the Little Lehigh was JR:

After he gave me a few poses, I wasn't sure if he was giving me a silent chuckle or a be ready signal but:

It looked like he had landed upstream, about halfway to the trout nursery.

Finally played catch up on this thread. Beautiful pictures everyone. I would love to have given "thumbs up" for all the great shots, but decided that might be a bit much. My summer birds are slowly disappearing, but I still have hummingbirds! Their numbers are slowing down around the feeders, but for a while it was pretty busy!

My apologies for the poor quality pictures. But, it seems we have a guest today. I didn't know he/she was outside with me until our dog decided to start running across the yard towards it. A pigeon!

We have a neighbor down the road that has them housed in their backyard, so I'm unsure if it escaped, but no one answered the door when I stopped by. It is banded (twice in fact), so I'm pretty sure he is the neighbor's bird.

But, it went from my tray that I put down for the squirrels/doves, to the fence, and back to my tray. It only ate the millet, so at least the birds have something left over, but they're banding together and avoiding the pigeon (which is now walking about foraging).

It's definitely not afraid of me. I assume it'll go back home later and hopefully if it escaped, the neighbor will notice one out of the enclosure and out him back in . I'm not sure if they let them free roam sometimes, I only ever see them in their fenced in area or not in there (which I assume they're in their house below if they're not in the fenced in area). But, I thought I'd share! I had no idea pigeons were so big! Like, I think it's the size of a small cat!
