I've got many plants just before going away for 2 weeks, so no time to repot. Caladiums i managed to uppot, but Begonia rex were in small pots in peat: so i insert a rope wick and go away... And they do fine.
I inserted bottom and top wicks in my new Jasminum sambac and left it on the balcony (it is supposed to like being in 85F) and it was totally fine too. Same for blooming Kalanchoe and even flowering Anthuriums in full bloom just in from Trader Joe.. Though eventually for permanent wick set-up i transfer to my light jungle mix. I almost totaled new Alo cuprea in peat: it drew too much water even for a tiny 3.5" pot. But managed to save it by repotting in a shallow tub.
If it were at 80F it would probably be fine, but at 75F indoors with less light it slows down and can't take as much.
oh, and pseuderanthemums are easy-peasy on wicks.
I even keep Adeniums (but in proper light mix) and Plumeria on wicks.
