Hi Tekla, Welcome!

Your plant is not actually a fern but a Cycad, commonly called "Sago Palm" but not really a palm. There are a few different types but one I see sold most often a houseplant is Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) Here in Florida they are grown as landscape plants and over years can grow quite large.
