This is D.A. 'The Alnwick Rose'. to help with those still deciding, or contemplating their list of roses. I thought the catalog photo & description mentioned as pink, but this plant, I actually questioned, if it was truly Alnwick, as it had a pale peach undertone, to it. Scent was nice, with nice manageable size, though that color had me wondering...

ShawnSteve, that SdlMalmaison photo is glorious, beats any of mine.
I missed a really good shot i wish now to have taken the time to catch; two SouvMalmaison rose blooms side by side, one was round and the other was the squarest rose bloom I have ever seen. Gather the rose photos while ye may.

Thank you, I just had to get a photo of it, just right when it showed how well, it quartered.

Has anyone heard from Burling? I gave her a list of roses in July and she said she'd call me a week before shipping them out in fall. Fall has come and gone and I've never heard from her or received anything from her.

I think she's doing well. I know people on the other site have been to visit her recently. She must have just forgotten or misplaced your order. I'm sure if you called her she get right on it! Smiling :smily:

I'm glad she's been seen recently. I sent her an email a month ago to refresh her memory in case she had forgotten or misplaced the order, but she never responded. I sent another email today. I hope she responds.

I heard from Burling. She's fine. My earlier email must have gone astray.

I'm so glad to hear that! I was getting worried after you said you hadn't heard back from her from your latest email. Does she run that business all by herself?

I think so. People who've been there never mention meeting anyone else at the nursery.

Glad to hear that she is OK. I placed an order with her in Oct and got it right away. Hopefully you will get your order this coming week or the next.

One of the roses I had ordered from Burling was Stranger, so she was waiting for it to get large enough to ship. It's large enough now, so she'll be sending me Stranger, Archduke Charles, Aunt Margy's Rose, School Spirit, Love and Peace, and Secret Recipe next Monday. I already have all of them but Stranger and School Spirit, but the other four are so nice that I want duplicates of them in other parts of the garden. I'm very happy. I love Burling's roses. High quality and low prices.

Is school spirit one that she bred herself? I love my Archduke Charles and have really wanted on to Margies Rose but I've never read of anyone growing it in my zone. I've never heard of secret recipe. Off to HMF to look that one up! Smiling

Yes, School Spirit is one of Burling's own roses. One of its parents is her Flamingo Dancer.

Secret Recipe is one of Ralph Moore's beautiful striped minis. Love and Peace is also one of his striped minis, but I don't have any pictures of that one.

Isn't it? That's why I wanted a second one, Carol. It's too pretty to confine to only one part of the garden.

Ralph used Secret Recipe in breeding many of his roses, hence the name. It is a pretty little thing!

I love my Flamingo Dancer. Makes hips like crazy and has beautiful full flowers. It is still producing beautiful flowers in January!
