we came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in September 2018" in Orchids forum

It is October 1. and with that we are starting our new monthly thread! Here in New Jersey the temperatures are starting to drop a bit and true Fall is surely around the corner. My Orchids returned from their outside Summer vacation and they are back in the greenhouse. I see lots of new growth and promising spikes.

For those of you who might enjoy some Glass Art, here is my Stained glass panel depicting this exact plant around 15 years or so. This was still in my working days and this fellow chemist made the most interesting good size panels and agreed to make one for me using my Aerangis biloba as basis. The Cat in the window was his touch and I didn't object. I always love the 3D work in his approach, as the plant and spikes hang down in front of the glass.

I also thank you for the explanation re: sibling crosses, Bill. I can only hope mine was toward the more compact plant. Impossible to tell in a 4" pot.

Nice show, Ursula!

I love that window, Ursula. Your friend is quite the artist.

I poster this (Rlc. Apache Gold x Rth. Marv Ragan) in last month's thread but it is fully open now and I have a couple of new pics.

Ursula, I think your Habenaria medusa is the most spectacular specimen I've ever seen. It is clearly VERY happy in your hands!
Your stained glass piece is beautiful..I wish I had that talent.
I've got a bunch of stuff blooming today but not quite ready for the camera yet. This little Vanda Weeravan is blooming for the second time this year. Patty's beaded basket is absolutely a perfect match.

The Weevaran has that spectacular cherry red color!! Simply gorgeous. Once that spike is fully open, it will be a better show if that is even possible. Confused

I too always like the Weeravan! Nice color on cute blooms!

To come back to the stained glass artist, I really liked his work. He also did a panel of the Cookara Tropical Snowflake for me, I was then "orchid-sitting" .

OK. Weather Alert. Southern California to get rain (I believe it's that wet stuff from the sky) due to hurricane Rosa. In our area they are calling for .75 to 1 inch of rain over the next few days. It's a deluge I tell you. Somebody quick, build an ark.

. . . and put all the orchids out where they'll get a drink of it straight from the source, too!

So glad to hear this, Ted. I hope it doesn't cause more problems than it solves.

I looked at 'Mikes Weather Page' and saw the track of this storm... is this really bizarre or is it just my uninformed state?
This Bc. Kosh Wallis 'Paradise ' was divided last year and has come back with 6 or 7 spikes.. I wish it had opened last week. Confused

Well, I'm ready for the rain, but looking at the radar, I'm not holding my breath. I did get some pruning done on the lemon while on the roof clearing gutters, and since I had the heavy ladder out, I finished the lime tree, so it wasn't a total waste of time. Of course I'll have to wear long sleeves for a week or so because I look like I've been wrestling cats now....

Hilarious! You are a step ahead of me, Carol. I have sworn off ladders and I don't go up on the roof anymore. Besides, there is plenty to do at ground level.
