I've noticed while planting out clumps from one of my favorite daylily gardens that there are frequently small white objects that appear to be plant food spikes in them. However, on my most recent visit there, I asked a gentleman about them and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about.
This is a place with huge, healthy daylilies, in the northernmost part of Ohio, and I would love for my plants to look like theirs. Is it possible to use plant food spikes in daylily beds?

I am thinking a good nine month slow release would be better than food spikes and be less expensive.
