I was out watering today. Didn't get enough rain last week to really soak the roses. Plus I was digging the remaining roses out of the chickie's play area and transplanting them into pots or in the bed I've been trying to clean the blackberries out of. The wind was blowing like crazy, but I wanted to get a few shots of some really pretty roses before it got dark. Had to go out and re-shoot several, and still didn't get 'em in focus! LOL So, here's what did come out ok... plus some others from the last week in between the sprinklings.... These are the today blooms: BAROCK ![]() CHERRY FREELANDER FRAGRANT PLUM GAIL LITTLE GREY PEARL MOUNTAIN MUSIC - I'm really lovin' those speckles! THE STREAK WILD BLUE YONDER These are from last week: ANNE LORENTZ APRICOT CANDY CORETTA SCOTT KING DELILAH JALITAH NANTUCKET NEPTUNE PINK PARADISE STRAWBERRY ICE SUMMER SONG VALENCIA WORLD PEACE YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL - this has been a really wonderful rose this yr. Almost always in bloom! |

I am curious what Beth will say about Plum Perfect. I have had this rose for about a year. I got it as a band on its own root from Northland in Washington state near Spokane (what a beautiful nursery!). They arrived great and I planted them in the ground in June. They have started to take off and I am always noticing blooms on them. My plants are small and very young but I think they will do nothing but get better with age. I don't notice a scent on them, however, but my nose for roses is not great (compared to having a great nose for food). So far, I am liking this rose very much and I do have a negative thing for dark purple types of roses. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a great dark purple rose in my garden. However, in my garden, my lavender roses are fine and tend to do well. However, when I had Midnight Blue, (a dark purple) the flowers were fine the day the opened. After that, they turned the most ugly shade of brown purple you could imagine. I am noticing the same thing on my Blue for You. First day, fairly great. After that, the most ugly shade of gray purple you could imagine. I am only keeping that rose to use as a breeder. If it isn't a great parent rose, out it goes. I think it has more to do with the weather I have here than anything else. It just may be too hot here for dark purple roses. I also didn't like Eyes for You for the same reason (regarding flowers blowing fast) and for its naked legs. I now have two Candice roses that I grew on their own root where Eyes for You once stood (naked chicken legs and all). Don't have that same issue with Candice (all around great rose). |

Uh guys... that's FRAGRANT PLUM not PLUM PERFECT. I don't have PLUM PERFECT. Looks like a lovely rose tho. Maybe someone else might have it and can give some feedback. Sorry for the confusion. FRAGRANT PLUM is a good rose tho. Not really as fragrant as the name suggests, at least not to me. I like how it gets a smokey edge as it ages. Grows about 5ft x 3ft-ish. |

Beth, I'm always wondering about Fragrant Plum....so the fragrance isn't that great. Darn. Carol |
