I bought roses from the local supermarket in June- the only thing written on the tag was "miniature roses". There were 4 roses inside the pot - I kept 2 and gave my mother 2. The ones I kept were placed on an open balcony in the sun. One died because I had gotten terribly sick and I missed watering them for 3 days (it was in a smaller pot). The one that survived doubled in foliage and height and started blooming again in September. My mother kept hers in a closed balcony. They did not do so well - they didn't grow and almost died and seeing how well mine was doing she gave them to me. Now it's October and I'm afraid winter is coming and I do not know how to winter them. I have figuered out I live in a zone 6. I've read that people either place them in an unheated garage or bury the pots. I have a small apartment, no garage or anything. What do you think I should do?

Ctrnsrbnsc -- Most of these little roses are produced to be "living bouquets," intended to die in a few weeks. To survive, they MUST be transferred to a larger container. By the time you bought them, they were almost out of room for roots, and now they're at critical level.

I've never been in your situation, but I suspect that your two choices are:
1. Pot them up, then put them back on the patio and winter-protect. I've never had to do that, but here are some tips:

2. Pot them up, then keep them inside with a gro-light.

I think I'd opt for #1, but YMMV.

Thank you so much Hurray! ! I changed the pot a few days after I bought them because of the lack of space. I'll buy even larger pots and replant them and try the protection strategy. They don't do well inside - I initially placed them by the window but when I saw they were dying I moved them on the patio and they thrived.
How big should the new pots be? Confused

How big are the current pots? Can you double the size?
