Can someone tell me why you can't buy daylilies and plant them now? I'm in zone 6B and have found some I love, but they aren't available until spring. ???

Welcome!

Probably because it's too late in the year for them to establish before winter, and in some milder areas they have finished digging and shipping for the season. The plants wouldn't be doing much until spring anyway and their chances of survival will be better if planted then.

Because almost every single plant that you want to plant has a season. A season for buying, a season for planting, a season for blooming. Vendors follow the seasonal flow of buying and selling. When the day lily season is over, it's over. They stock other plants, they put their efforts into something else.
If 99% of the day lily world has shut down for the year, no one will stock day lillies just for one person who may come along to buy something out of season.

There are some in Florida and Georgia that ship all year round. There is a season though. I wont do anything to our daylilys in October. Well maybe remove stress coat last time before winter.

It is the outer dead part of the fan. As the leaf dies it builds up around the crown and clutters up. I think it helps insulates the plants during winter. I do try to keep clean in spring and summer. Oh heck,i,just got that one.,lol, i think we all need one and make it a parka haha
