Can these orchids be saved? Have been in well-draining pots about a year but no evident growth. Roots are lackluster brown.

I can not say with any certainty what type of orchid they are. Are there any labels?
I have seen miniature Cymbidiums look like this or some Cattleya hybrids. The culture would be very different for each.
A lot of those roots look okay but you need them back in a pot with the correct media.

Thanks Bill. It's a cymbidium. I divided the mother plant years ago after it bloomed but offspring have yet to thrive. Mother plant has since kicked the bucket.

Okay Lisa.
The easiest way to pot them up is with an orchid mix of bark, charcoal and sponge rock. You can order as a mix or as different ingredients.
They enjoy lots of water and fertilizer when actively growing. They ultimately like lots of sunshine too but if they go indoors for the winter, gradually move them into more sun.
If they are a standard Cymbidium ultimately producing almost tennis ball sized pseudobulbs, they need a significant cool period in the fall to promote flowering.
So with good sun, lots of fertilizer and 10-14 days of nights in the 40's, this promotes flowers to form.

First, though, they need some roots. I don't see any live roots on those plants.

I think that a lot of those roots on the right hand clump are alive. They look largely white.
I see fewer on the left clump. The middle piece has maybe the fewest. Once potted up and given fresh media and some water, they will look a whole lot better by 1/1/2019.
