Even though you are planting late I think your iris will be just fine. They are already used to your climate since your neighbor had been growing them for a while. Just don't be dismayed if they don't bloom next spring. They may take the extra time to get established. It is very common for newly planted iris to not bloom until year two (some vendor sites say that 50% bloom is about average for new plantings).

Mike ~ Welcome! to the Irises Forum. (Some call it "The Nut House"!) Only because we are all crazy about irises! You may have heard that the "iris virus" is contagious. nodding There are many enablers here...uh, that is, helpful members, to get you off to a good start.

@MikeSmithIII, glad you found this wonderful group, I learned so many things about Irises and gained many great friends here, and of course received gifted Irises too.
After trying many different kind of plants in our challenging weather, I found that Irises and Daylilies do really well here, also Lilies and Spring blooming bulb (Daffodils & Hyacinth).
Looking forward to Spring and can't wait to see everyone's blooms.

Have a good nite friends Group hug
