Are daylilies in the movie?
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

I can tell you yes, there are daylilies in the movie, but how much they are shown or how they are involved in the story, I do not know. Portions of the movie were shot in and around Augusta, Georgia, this past summer. Whatever portions showing daylilies, daylilies in a greenhouse, an outdoor area where many daylilies are grown or inside Mr. Sharp's home were taken at Shaw's Sunshine Garden which is in Augusta not far from I-520. A crew came in and changed things like the fence in front of the garden and some other things including inside the "house" (the garden office) to make it look more like the time period they wanted and came back after filming to put it back like it was before they arrived. I also have no idea which way they characterized Mr. Sharp - - like the old man dealing with dementia who didn't fully understand what he was doing or like the cunning old man who used his age and what he could get away with because of that to do what he did, both of which are mentioned in the New York Times article mentioned above. I think would have a bit of a problem thinking about Clint Eastwood playing the first of those options.

I have ordered plants from Shaw's before, they send nice things. I think he was in his right mind when he started but over time his memory went downhill. Seems he started having alot of problems at the end. Getting lost, not remembering where he was going ect.
I can't wait to watch it! I don't have any of his plants, but maybe I will get one eventually.

I remember this story in the news and found if fascinating. And I had heard that Clint Eastwood was going to make a movie about the old man who was a drug runner.

I didn't realize that Brookwood Black Kitten that I acquired this past year was one of his. It's a cultivar that I really love. That's cool that there is a background story about the hybridizer of this daylily cultivar that I own. Thumbs up

I've met Leo Sharp a number of times. OK guy, just slightly slimy, but I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like him. I was clued in fairly early in the game. That's what happens when you know a bunch of the big growers--they're not here any more. I may watch the movie when it hits pay per view. Maybe just to see Clint Eastwood. I think he's older than I am!

I'll wait for it to come out for rent too. I think Eastwood was slightly before my day maybe. I would not have watched this movie either except for the daylily connection. I am not big on movies, would rather watch documentaries, cooking shows or gardening ect.

I may never see the movie, but the song Toby Keith wrote and sang in the movie (Don't Let The Old Man In) is great. A lot of us old men know just what the song is saying.

I just got back from seeing this movie. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't have chosen to see this if I hadn't read about it here, but I am glad that I went. There were scenes of daylilies in the first bit of the movie, only about 5 minutes or so. Talked a bit about his love of daylilies.
