Well, it took over 5 weeks to finally be allowed in the see the destruction from the Camp Fire. Just thought I'd pop in and let everybody know that I lost EVERYTHING. Not one rose survived. Some look like they might've been savable, but after this long with only a little rain in between, they're finished. Some actually just totally vanished. No signs of a rose bush having even been there. Some of them were my most rare ones too. Makes me sick. And the chickies did not survive. Unfortunately they were burned, and then eaten later. We found bones and body parts all over the place. One of the neighbors' cat got left behind and apparently they provided sustenance for him throughout the time he was alone. Going back tomorrow to go thru the house remains to try and find anything that might've made it. Haha.

I'm so sorry, Beth. I was hoping your chickens were among those found roaming the streets and being fed by animal rescue. It is terrible that all your roses were lost but I noticed there are many of them on the database so there is a record of some of them at least. I hope you don't find going through the ashes of your home too stressful. Sometimes finding the most insignificant possession among the ruins is like finding treasure.

I hope your new home is quickly built so you can settle back into a somewhat normal routine. I wish you and your family all the best for the holidays and hope the new year brings you only good things. Lola Lovey dubby Group hug

Beth - I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. Some of us donated to the Go Fund Me account set up for you and I hope that it's been of some help to you and your family.

Thank you for sharing your lovely roses with us over the years. I hope you were able to save your computer or the images through a cloud server. I know someone who had to leave their garden of many years. Being able to still look at her photos is easing the transition.

Best wishes,

It's heartening to hear from you, Beth -- though the news is no better than we feared. But I suspect it had to be faced, before you, and your family, can begin to move forward.

Now, when you start over (because, of course, you will) you can correct any mis-steps you took the first time, and create the garden of your dreams.

Beth, I joined this site just to see how you were doing and am so sorry to hear about the total loss to both "your girls" and your magnificent collection of roses. I hope in time you can replace at least some of the roses. I think about you alot and can't even imagine beginning again. Please take courage that anyone of us will help anyway we can, so please just ask. Also, while I know keeping occupied is often the best and most useful remedy, take the time to mourn. You have been through so much prior to this and I often admired your spirit and hopeful sense of tomorrow. Anyway, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you.

Beth I believe that anyone who has been around a while and has seen the magnificent pictures of your roses is grieving with you the sad loss that will take years to repair if ever. We share your hearbreak over your loss.
know that we are thinking of you and if there's anything we can do, and I know that's easy to say but honestly I believe that any one of us would hop in our car and head down to help you out.
Like Vap said, take time to grieve , you have faced a traumatic life event.
My prayer is that through the ashes the Phoenix in you will rise again.
Peace be with you Beth

So sorry to to hear about your devastation Beth, thank you for taking the time to check in. It's going to continue to be an emotional and tough future, hopefully the process of moving forward will at least give you some measure of control. Look forward, not behind.

Beth, my heart hurts for you. You grieve for your treasures and the very bed you slept in. You can't sit in your own kitchen and dream. I wish we could fast-forward you into a happier time. But it will come. You can still make plans and dream up a great garden. They can't take that away!
