OK folks. I have heard several of you talk about drinking Lemoncello after working in the garden. But no one would ever answer my questions about what Lemoncello actually is. I am leaving for Florida tomorrow before dawn for a week, and am taking a bottle of Lemoncello with me. So please tell me, do we drink it straight, mix it with something?? Please educate me ASAP as to the best way to enjoy it -- THANKS!

It's spelled "Limoncello". It's a desert liquor made by taking zested lemon peels steeped in Everclear and then adding water and tons of sugar. When consumed you experience sweetness and lemon acidic sensations on the tongue. Consumed again and you experience a nasty headache all night. I consider it a poor habit. So drink it straight, after dinner, and in moderation. Moderation is tough with sweet, delicious treats.

You can do it either way. Pinterest has a lot of drinks you can make with it.

I like it diluted with lots of other things. If you do it straight, you will have a headache!

I can't argue with that as two nights ago I went to bed with a nail driven into my forehead, or so it seemed. I had a half serving in the afternoon, another full serving with dinner, and another half serving an hour later. It adds up.
I make it myself so I know what's in it and I can control the alcohol percentage, which usually comes in at approximately 90 proof. I also juice the lemons and use that in place of some of the water, and I try to keep the sugar content down. I can't drink the stuff with the standard recipe, it's just too sweet. Adding the tart lemon juice for me makes it irresistably delicious, which is a problem. Having a delicious, sugary, alcoholic beverage in the house is a bad idea for me. The memory of that headache does help keep it in check. I doubt I'll make any more after this batch is gone.

Hey... finally a topic I know something about. Rolling my eyes.

Better? I don't know. It does make it colder, which I like. And maybe the lemon juices and acids would be more stable for longer? I have no idea.

I always learn new stuff when plants get unusual names. Another lily was named Tiramisu and of course I had to look that up and now I know. Increased my vocabulary by one more word Hilarious! .

Guess I don't know much about fancy food (and drinks).
