Hello! I bought this black-eyed Susan and I've noticed the center is not black. Is that because it's a different species or will the center change colors with time?
Thanks!
Happy holidays!

The center will not turn black. If you bought it as Thunbergia alata, it is a cultivator. What does the tag say?

Hi mgpuppmarteniz
I grew every variety/color of Thunbergia I could find last summer. So beautiful - and as they grew on my 5 foot trellis, they created a very nice privacy wall. Non-stop blooms if they are grown in a sunny location. The last picture shows that I had to prop the trellis because the late summer winds were pushing the trellis over! The only insect to bother it was the Japanese beetle.

James !
I hope you do grow these beautiful vines.
Each year I grow a new plant (to me) and I can say I've not been disappointed with the experiences.
Best of luck.

The tag just said black eyed Susan. I thought it was a bit odd that the center wasn't black but I thought maybe it would turn black with time...I guess I was mistaken. Confused

Maybe the plant is not a Thunbergia? Also I see you guys mention the Thunbergia needs a lot of sun. I planted it somewhat in the shade. I might trim the other plants around it so more light gets to it.

Thanks for all your help!

The genus is definitely Thunbergia. The plant usually called Black Eyed Susan Vine is Thunbergia alata. The species of your plant may not be alata or it may be a cultivator of alata.

If it doesn't get enough sun, it will not bloom. Also, these plants are perennial but tender perennials. That means frost will kill it so, hopefully, your area doesn't getting freezing tempertures.
