Seedfork's blog: Filling in the washes

Just cloudy today, no more rain, thank goodness. I didn't do much in the garden today except fill in the washed out areas. Took four wheelbarrow loads of mulch down to the end of the tomatoes, it did not wash there but with all the rain, that area just sunk down a lot.
I was amazed at the"millions" and I am not exaggerating too much when I say that, of almost microscopic little weeds popping up down there around the tomatoes. I have no ideas what they were are where they came from but they certainly enjoyed all that rain. I just raked the entire area over really good, and I think (hope) that will solve the problem. The water table down in the bog is now back to almost surface level. Push back the top layer of mulch and you can see standing water. So far the daylilies are still loveing it, had more blooms today, but on the same NOids as before. I actually did have my first named daylily bloom 'Champagne Elegance', but it was so beaten up by the rain I didn't bother taking a picture.
I have got to find a cure for the Canna leaf rollers, every single leaf that develops now is stuck together and mutilated by the evil little worms. Also still found a little worm eating my rose buds, I think will all the rain, nothing is slowing down the insects.
I was out taking photos with the new camera today came in downloaded them and all of a sudden when I put the card back in the camera, it would not even turn on. Took the card out, the camera worked, put it in the camera would not work. Took it back to Wal-Mart went to Office depot and bought two better quality cards for about the same price. Now the camera works again.
Nothing really new today, but I am getting a little experience with the camera. I am really starting to like it for a lot of reasons. Can't compare with a DSLR for sure, but it is so simple to use, and the one lens does have the advantage of being very light and compact.
