Earwigs can damage blooms, most often doing their nibbling at night. I often find them hidden in the folds of the daylily, iris & rose petals or hidden under dark damp spots during the day.The most common earwig in California gardens is the European earwig, which was accidently introduced to the U.S. They can also do substantial damage to seedling plants and soft fruit but also feed on soft-bodied insects like aphids and insect eggs.
This pretty swallowtail had an injured wing and could not fly very well. My granddaughter had it sitting on her hand for a while before she placed him on a rose bloom. I felt bad for it but enjoyed capturing it's beauty up close.
Sometimes it's the little things that you discover in the garden that bring so much interest, bloom close-ups, tiny spiders, bugs and bees!.

Roses are at peak bloom, it's a riot of color. I may eventually take a few out and replace with shrubs and foliage interest.

Overnight rain and an overcast morning made for a good time to take pictures!
It's really warming up, seems spring is in full force around here.
I have a bit of trouble with focusing but that will improve as I get better.

This daylily is already blooming, just not opening as wide as it should be if it was warmer, Red Volunteer is an awesome red and great plant!
Some onion type bulbs
Pink Flowering Almond (Prunus glandulosa 'Sinensis')
Purple Gromwell (Glandora prostrata 'Star')
This is one tough plant, through rain and frosty nights (I know, nothing as cold as so many of you) but for a succulent, this one is great!
Graptosedum (XGraptosedum 'Pinky')
Honey Bush (Melianthus major)
The unusual russet bloom is about 10 inches long, the blue-green leaves are huge. They smell like peanut butter.
