Dill plant seems to have jumped !
Posted on Dec 11, 2014 7:48 PM

Today I left the incandescent light on over the hanging plants in the GH. We've had a couple days with some nice sunshine coming in thru the windows. I swear the dill has jumped an inch tonight -- maybe my imagination, but I think it did. I love dill -- I have to slap my hand when I go in there -- I like to pinch some off to munch on. Maybe the solution is to plant more :)

Rope lights added, GH temp at 70 while 53 outside
Posted on Dec 7, 2014 10:28 PM

Put incandescent rope lights under and around plants. Tonight have to keep going out and turning heater lower and lower to make sure it's not going to run until later when it gets much colder. Have heater set barely above 44 degree threshold. Tomorrow I will modify the setup. I have about four strands of rope under and around each plant and I think half of that is about right. Once I added the mylar blanket "tenting" tonight the temp on the shelves is staying around 70.

Wow! Temps in mid 70s today!!
Posted on Nov 30, 2014 6:36 PM

Primary GH got up to 85 so Ed got the two screened door and wall vents put in. The patio GH really started heating up but I got it opened up sooner. Moved the tomatoes and lemon and pepper into it. It gets more sun earlier and I will let it be warmer for those plants. Thinking I will focus primarily on cool crops (spinach, arugula, lettuce) and starting seedlings in the Primary GH and let it stay a little cooler at night. Got a heated mat for starting seedlings.

Found more green catapillars on tomatoe--every day a couple. Plus something leaving large blobs of goop on it every night. Moved it out of the GH and sprayed it good. Hopefully they are all gone. Little house of horrors!!

Record cold --now record high!
Posted on Nov 28, 2014 11:36 PM

After 8 or more freezes we are finally warming up and expect record warm in the mid 70's tomorrow and no night freezes. Great for the GH. Won't need any heat until Tuesday night when It drops to 38.

Pop up greenhouse bought on Amazon arrived today and put patio plants in there. Can move the meyer lemon out of the HF GH into the popup and give me some more room.

Lots of misoto rose radishes growing up in the GH. Also lettuce and arugula doing great. Spinach seems to be slow. Sprouted two summer squash. Where do I think those are going to grow???? Anaheim peppers did not sprout. Herbs doing very well. Husky cherry tomatoes not ripe yet. Mammoth jalapeƱos doing great.
