One Oakleaf Hydrangea and eleven Amaryllis planted FFO on Red Apparition
Posted on May 9, 2014 6:34 PM

Managed to get a nice little Oakleaf Hydrangea today, not my favorite plant for sure, but my wife has been wanting one for a several years so I planted this one right outside the kitchen window, she has a nice few of it.
Also she has been wanting something beside the Azaleas and daylilies in the front bed, so today I planted eleven Amaryllis there. Two of them were pretty small, but they have a full year before bloom time rolls around again.
Lots of blooms on the daylilies now, the first bloom on Red Apparition today, I like the dark red color. The other daylilies are starting to put out much nicer looking blooms than the earlier ones. I thought after seeing the first blooms on a few of them that they needed replacing, now I like them pretty well. Even the Heaven's Portals that the first blooms just looked awful to me are starting to look nice.

Three hosta up today and the 'Sum and Substance' may still be alive.
Posted on May 5, 2014 8:28 PM

I have been looking for two hosta to show but had just about given up on them, I even thought I had probably moved them to a different location. Finally today I was surprised to find them both up, not just little pips, but with actual leaves already opened. They are both small still, but but I think one is Bressingham Blue, not sure about the other one yet.
Also I dug around my 'Sub and Substance', I had decided if there was nothing there I was going to use that space for another plant. I did find a very small pip, unfortunately I broke it off when digging around. However, the roots were still there and showing some signs of life, so for the time being I left it.
I dug up the other two hosta I found today and repositioned them, they were not in a good location, that is one reason I thought I might have already moved them. One I planted next to the main path, the other one I place in a bed with several other hostas.
Also a big surprise hosta today, I found a new plain green one of some kind that I had no remembrance at all of a hosta being in that location. It was the smallest one I had show today, so I just left it where it was and will plan on moving it maybe next year.
Petticoat Frills Daylily opened with its first bloom of the year.

Looking back it is strange, some years the Mary Washington roses blooms before the Jasmine and some years after the Jasmine.
