Irritated that I had typed a full page and lost it! So, basically it was a record of planting melons, squash and cukes yesterday. Re-planted beans where missing and planted some malabar spinach.

Had a good market being Mother's Day weekend. I had approx. 5 bouquets with ten stems of peonies that sold right away for $10 ea. then I finished making bouquets and sold all of them. We also sold over 20 qts. Of strawberries. In fact, all we came home with was 2 bunches of chard and four loosehead lettuce. Most we've ever made so far. And it was supposed to rain but the rain held off until evening.

Going to take a nap now since Jackson is sleeping.

Today I got my peppers planted, all 81 of them. But since it was more than one row I had to make a decision on where to put the second row since I do have a garden layout. In order to even up the rows on both sides of the aisle I was supposed to take out my row of daffodils to use for vegetables but I never did. Mostly because I just don't know where to put them when I dig them up.

So, it's either dig up the daffodils today or put the peppers in the row behind their assigned row. That was the easy way out because there is nothing planned for that row, it is for the runners of the squash plants. Since I only had 16 plants to go into the second row I decided to compromise and just dig out enough daffodils to put the 16 plants in. Well, it turned out to be close to a third of a row and I filled a wheelbarrow/cart with green bulbs (bulbs with green tops still attached). But I'm glad I dug them out. Now to figure out what to do with them. Right now the wheelbarrow/cart is sitting under the deck but I worry about the dog eating them. I have them covered but she is a pesky little puppy.

In the blank row I did plant some radishes because they will be harvested before there is many runners on the squash. I also planted some parsley and dill that will be there when the squash runs but I was thinking it might just be a good companion plant to help keep away the squash bugs. Besides, I seem to have a lot of trouble getting dill to germinate. I've always envisioned it freely reseeding throughout the garden but it never has.

Speaking of companion planting, I have some penny royal that I want to pot up and try to plant with my eggplant and beans. I was planting my gladiolus bulbs in the row next to the one where the penny royal is and whew, I could really smell it!

So, I got my glads from Old House Gardens planted today too. And two dahlias Jennifer sent me, an orange and a burgundy. I planted the last of my rosemary seeds and the two pumpkin plants Miranda planted from seed earlier this year. I also planted six NOID tomato plants. Well, two I know are Aunt Ruby's German Green and one is a Stump, a piece that broke off and I stuck in a pot and it rooted.

David started weeding the potatoes and filling in the trench but he got sidetracked and never did finish them.

I was hoping to get some zinnias planted today but that didn't happen so maybe I will try and throw some in paper pots when Jackson is not getting into everything tomorrow. And some cukes and melon. It's really easier for me to put the paper pots in rather than direct sow because i would have to dig small places to put soil mix before I put the seeds in anyway, so the paper pots saves me that step.

So we worked from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today. I was getting a little cranky towards the end of the day because I didn't get to sleep until after 2 a.m. so I started the day out tired. And I knew I had to go home and fix something for us to eat. David offered to go to Wendy's but I really didn't want fast food so I made omlettes with ham, potatoes, onion, snow peas and cheese for dinner. They were delicious.

Right now David is zonked out in his chair but I'm glad because he won't be asking me when we are going to take down the lights and shelving unit I use to start seeds. Gotta try and get it down so we have some room for Jackson to play but i'm way too tired to do anything tonight!

Okay, I'm not keeping up here.

We picked about 2 quarts of stawberries on Tues. I think. Today we have about 6 quarts to take to market.

Picked our first swiss chard today. Also had about 20 bags of lettuce, some kale, spinach and radishes. Oh, also about 3-4 lbs. of asparagus and about 60 tomato plants. Hope we can sell most of the tomato plants or I will have to repot them.

After we got everything for market I finally planted 3 flats of seedlings (snap dragons and Forget Me Nots) as well as the new dahlias I got in MI.

The first peonies were open so I picked some of them. Also salvia, white verbena, coral bells, pink, purple and white iris, pink snapdragons that over wintered, nine bark, lemon balm, some fennel leaves for green, scabiosa and bachelor buttons. Oh, and some sweet william from home. I forgot to cut some roses!

We picked a handful of strawberries today.

David put the tomato cages on. He found a nest of guinea eggs. 14 of them.

I finally got my tomatoes planted today. And beans. Pole beans and bush beans and soybeans.

Yesterday was our first day at market this year. We had a very good day selling mostly bagged lettuce and tomato plants. We will go every week this year, even if I only have a few things to sell so we don't lose our place. I am hoping they don't move us this year but I don't know yet. I have to get in touch with the market manager but he's a nice guy so I hope we can stay right where we are.
