I remember when we first got involved with irises, and joined the Utah Iris Society in the early 1970's. There was an amazing selection of irises available.....selfs, bi-colors, neglectas, plicatas, etc. There were also breeding goals at that time, which seem strange today. We wanted clean shoulders [hafts], we tried to eliminate veins, and patterns were not in vogue. Now it seems as if the sky is the limit, and while it often seems maybe there is truly nothing new, each year a few really different things are produced. Also, some of the old goals are still worthwhile, such as rich clear selfs. Here are a few of my favorites growing in my garden.
