June 13, 2016: Plant Ended (Removed, Died, Discarded, etc) (Plant Ended (Removed, Died, Discarded, etc) (This year was Dallas and I's first year trying to garden. The war with the squash bugs was fierce. We killed about 6 a day and were constantly having to rip the eggs off the plant. The squash bugs didn't really appear until the plant started producing fruit, and when they did they came in number. They did not respond to "Trish's spray" but all the other bugs did from what we could tell. Right when the plant started producing about a squash or two a day, we lost half of the plant. We thought the base had rotted from all of the rain and when we ripped it off, we found a grub inside of it. We still had half our plant left and thought we were good, until today when I went out to the garden and noticed all of the plant was rotted at the bottom. We figured out this was a squash vine borer that was killing it! We had been so focused on the squash bugs we didn't know to watch out for the vine borer! So now our squash has perished. ))
