Ranunculus Aziz Mix - Floret Farm suggests pre-sprouting the corms before planting to give plants a jumpstart, and ALSO, for colder climates that cannot plant these in the fall, we can have flowers a few weeks earlier than with non-pre-sprouted ones.

To presprout, fill a flat-bottom seed tray half full of moist potting soil. I planted the plumped corms (soaked for several hours) into the soil. After they sat in the garage (40-50°F for 10 to 14 days, they sprouted.
The corms swelled to twice their original size and developed little rootlets. I planted them into two pots and put the into a cold frame to grow.
