From the 2024 Victory Seed Catalog: "75 days, indeterminate — The potato leaf plants are sturdy, early, and produce fruits that are smooth, tasty, weigh in the two to eight ounce range, and are red in color. Throughout the twentieth century, several old seed companies sold tomato varieties by this name. We believe that what we are offering is the original variety, also known as 'Wayahead' or 'Potato-leaved Earliana', that was introduced and by S. M. Isbell & Company of Jackson, Michigan. This is not the variety commonly available by Jung Seed or many other modern seed companies." Seeds obtained from Victory in 2024. |

The purple coloring occurs on the portion of the fruit that is exposed to light, while the shaded portion starts out green and turns deep red when mature. 2023: Totally Tomatoes Despite the name, this was the only variety (so far) that I have ever had a problem with blossom end rot in, since growing my tomatoes in an unheated high tunnel. Even slightly later, when there was no sign of rot on the exterior of the tomatoes, there were spots of rot in the seed cavity when they were cut open. Very disappointing because the tomatoes are otherwise beautiful, flavorful and juicy. |
