antsinmypants's Plant List: Winter Sow

A note from antsinmypants
Feel free to ask about anything in my list you may be interested in. I'm always looking to trade. Just because something isn't in my want list doesn't necessarily mean I don't want it & just because something I have isn't marked for trade doesn't mean it isn't available for trade. I stay busy so don't always get around to updating.

Birdsfoot trefoil is a useful conservation plant but also an invasive weed in low maintenance turf areas maintained at high mowing heights. This species often appears as patches and clumps in under-fertilized lawns and institutional grounds, and in utility areas along roads and highways.

Zones 4a-9b.

The Natural light was perfect and the color is amazing.

The most common method of raising horehound is sowing seeds directly into the garden area. Seeds can be direct sowed in spring or fall. If direct sowing in the spring, wait until three weeks before the final predicted frost date. Place the seeds a ½ inch deep in the cultivated ground.

Tomatoes Galore Swap - critterologist - Fun to watch the violet-blue "balloons" pop open to star shaped single blooms. I've had this plant at least 10 years, so the variety name is just my best guess. It's drought resistant once established (lives in my mailbox bed) and will self-sow (good winter sowing candidate). Seeds collected 2023.

Balloon flowers are generally planted in the spring after the danger of frost has passed, growing quickly to bloom in the first year.

Zones 3 to 8.

A.H. Fergus Falls, Maine 12/16/2022

Sow Rudbeckia seeds outdoors in the spring after the danger of frost has passed. Prepare the soil by loosening the top 1 - 2 inches and removing any weeds. Sow the seeds into the loosened soil and rake in. Walk over the area to gently press the flower seeds into the soil. Keep the flower seeds moist until germination. The plants transplant well and should be spaced 12 - 18 inches apart. They form a clump that will reach 12 inches in width or more. Rudbeckia Flower Care: Deadheading prolongs the bloom season, but they will re-seed themselves readily if you leave a few blooms to go to seed. Watch for seedlings in subsequent years.

100 days.
Zones: 4 - 8.
