A cross of Big Dwarf and Brandywine 'Big Brandy F1' is a cross of 'Big Dwarf' and 'Brandywine', that produce beautiful, big (about 12 to 15 oz.) beefsteak-type fruits. This is a part of 'Heirloom Marriage™' hybrid series, which is produced from modern day unions of heirloom parents, providing hybrid vigor while maintaining the virtue and integrity of their old-fashioned beginnings. They were bred for improved yield, earlier maturity, and fewer blemishes while maintaining old-time flavor. Distinctive, deeply pleated fruit are juicy, sweet, and balanced with a touch of acid – outstanding tomato flavor. Grew 2020. Very prolific. Great flavor. Saved seeds from this hybrid in 2020. I grew the seeds saved from 2020 this year (2022) & they turned out just like Big Brandy. (See 'Big Brandy' (Not) in my list)) Pink 12 to 15 oz. Beefsteak Disease Resistance Indeterminate 75-80 days. |

Grew 2020. Very prolific. Great flavor. 'Black Cherry' is a delicious and well-known tomato variety, although its true paternity has not been revealed. The Vince and Linda Sapp family, who own the 'Tomato Growers Supply Company' in Florida, USA, developed it from a natural cross. In 2003, they made it commercially available for the first time. Donated to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)* on September 29th, 2004, by Phillip D. Griffiths of Cornell University. Germplasm Resource Information Network (GRIN)** accession number for this tomato is PI 639207. The only authentic black cherry tomato grows on enormous, sprawling plants with vigorous vines that are laden with abundant crops of cherries growing in clusters of 10-12 weighing 0.7-0.9oz/20-25g and measuring 1in./2.54cm. The small, spherical fruit has a purple flesh with green jelly around the seeds and is bursting with irresistibly wonderful, sweet, rich, complex flavors and blends beautifully with other colored cherries in a multitude of fresh summertime recipes, making it a Farmer's Market favorite. Fruit will ripen early-to-mid season, 65-70 days after transplant. Good disease resistance. * The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducts plant breeding activities both internally and through publicly funded programs all over the USA. ** Germplasm Resource Information Network (GRIN) documents plant, animal, and microbial collections through informational pages and searchable databases. GRIN is operated by the National Germplasm Resources Laboratory in Beltsville, MD, USA. 2021- Literally hundreds of volunteers from last years 3 plants! Red/Brown Cherry Indeterminate. 2021 Chicagoland Annual Plant Swap - Pepperlove A family heirloom of Tom Gallucci of Connecticut. The seeds came from Tom's ex-wife's grandfather, Mr. Prue who was from Massachusetts. Mr. Prue was known to have grown these wonderful tomatoes in the 1930s and 40s. Prue is one of my favorites for taste! The wispy vines with sparse foliage have a droopy appearance but the red elongated heart-shaped 8-16 oz fruit are delicious. They are great for slicing or canning. aka Thorburn's Terra Cotta Chicagoland annual plant swap 2021 - BC Anne C., Texas 2022 Incredible flavor, color and history! Introduced in 1893 by James Thorburn of New York, this is one of the most sensational tomatoes we have ever grown. With honey-brown skin, orange-pink flesh, and green seed mass, this is an eye-catching slicer with an out-of-this-world flavor. The tomato produces heavily during mid-season and then drops off quickly once cool weather sets in. As a cooker it will yield a pumpkin-orange sauce with a floral aroma. We are excited to have this tomato that was painted in color in Thorburn's 1893 catalog; at last we can offer this rare treasure! From the collection of Dr. William Woys Weaver. ~ BC Orange Beefsteak. Semi-determinate. 75 days. |
