Grp. 2 - Optional light pruning after flowering.

2015 One new specimen. No blooms.

2016...just couldn't survive the drought (or so I thought!).

9.2016....rose from the dead like a phoenix! Moved to northeast corner of garage. Struggled a bit, and grew, but no blooms this year.

4.2017...got some nice sprouting going on. Read that Nelly takes a few years to grow to full size. Gotta be patient.

5.2017 moved to NE corner of garage garden by birdbath. Not very tall yet, but FFO!! Yay!

5.2018 Sweet spot! It's grown fuller, and bloomed prolifically this year! Thriving!

2021: Bloomed beautifully!!

2022: Did not bloom much.

2023: Spring, had to cut back drastically to dig and transplant the three hosta around the birdbath. Made sure to leave several leaf buds.

Group 2 - Optional light pruning after flowering.

2016 - Three new specimens. All three bloomed and rebloomed!

4.2017...nice sprouting on all three specimens!

Spring 2018 - NW corner specimen died out.

Spring 2020 - NE corner specimen died out. SE corner specimen barely hanging on. Sad Sighing!

2021: NE corner grew so well, then it died back again. I suspect Jerkwaad's dog has peed on it. :grumble: SE corner died back. I didn't dig the roots up. Life got in the way.

2022: Didn't pay attention bc life got in the way.

2023: noticed that it's coming back from the dead! LOL I tied it to the kennel and it flowered but didn't grow much taller than 24". Oh wait, life got in the way, and I noticed that it was growing along the ground, so it probably grew to about 48".
June 4, 2017: Bloomed (Blooming profusely!! Just a stunning Clematis!)

Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens)

New: Fall 2020. Planted on N side of NE corner of kennel to block neighbor's view to the back yard.

2021: Grew prolifically!! Pruned back lightly and cut off dead branches at the end of the season.

2022: Filled out, and blocks Jerkwaad and the nosey neighbor's view to the back yard! Doin' it's job!! YAAAAY!!

2023: Grew beautifully, but buds didn't open I think because Ryker's digging is right inside the kennel behind the honeysuckle, which exposed it's roots on that side, so it really struggled in the hot months.

3/3/2024: Hoping to take care of that dug out side. Plan to install a 30"x30"x 48"d square area and fill in with soil using 4"x8"x16"block deep down and about 18" or so high above grade to keep Ryker away from that area this year. Hopefully will install deep enough below grade that his digging won't disturb it. Planned to do this last year, but just couldn't get around to it.
