Hello fellow gardeners!!
We are located in the city of Canton OH, the home the Pro Football Hall Fame!
My gardening journey began in August of 2011, after resigning from my job as a Residential Building Designer. Being a two-income family with two tween girls at the time, our back yard was resembling that of what could've been considered the Munsters' yard! I then decided to create a back yard "escape", and I've built a total of 10 perennial beds on our small city lot in just 5 years. It's a constant work in progress, and I discovered yard and garden work to be free therapy (well, not so free, but you know what I mean!). I feel at one with nature and it brings me a sense of clarity and peace.
My dad (God rest his soul) loved working in the yard and planting his annuals, and ironically, I joined this community on *dad's birthday*! Dad's lawn turf was *always* the envy of the neighborhood. You know, so thick and lush that it feels soooo good and soothing under your bare feet! I feel that dad is always with me, when I'm outside in the yard and gardens. I just wish that my grass would just magically look like his did, but without the work!
All of my projects are DIY with occasional help from the hubby. His nickname around here is "Destruction" and mine is "Construction"!
2008 was the year of my first vegetable garden. It was thriving quite well, before it was pummelled by golfball size hail! Needless to say, there was no harvest that year, but I have continued to plant a very small annual veggie garden ever since! ☺
A quick word to the wise: Using the wrong garden tool can lead to a concussion and yard/garden work that'll just have to wait 'til next year! (Note to self!)
As gardeners, we put in blood, sweat, & tears, and we sustain bee stings & injuries, but there's nothing more satisfying than the wondrous result of our labor!!
My mantra: The grass is only greener where it's watered and fertilized 😃
