Ox Tongue (Gasteria obliqua) |
Have Container Garden Sedums and Succulents |
This may also be a newer succulent introduction: Gasteria brevifolia Protect from frost. Notes from research: Gasteria brevifolia: Thick leaves are are tongue-like. They grow distichously (aligned like a fan). As they grow, they will spiral to a loose rosette form. Flowers are sent up on long stalks and are coral and tubular. Gasteria are good with low light and minimal water and do well indoors, still maintaining form and color. They grow deep roots, so use a deep pot. The will easily rot, so avoid standing water. Use a gritty, well-draining soil. Water only when soil is fully dry. |
September 25, 2021: Obtained plant (Bought a tray of different succulents, this one was the only one labeled. Franks in Maryland. New to me, Fall of 2021.) September 28, 2022: Maintenance performed (Move for the winter into the new greenhouse. Did well during the summer with partial sun. Too much sun affects color (turns grey). Moving into partial light greens up the plant.) February 2, 2023: Bloomed (Multiple plants overwintering indoors under lights. Several bloom stalks coming up. ) |

Haworthia turgida var. longibracteata |
Have Houseplants and Tropicals New plants and seeds Tender Perennial (Michigan) Sedums and Succulents |
NOTES from vendor: This genus tolerates high heat by slowing down and eventually going dormant in the peak of summer. This means that, unlike other succulents, it is important not to over-water or fertilize during summer dormancy and water a bit more frequently in the winter growing season. Haworthia are slow growers and tend to stay small in pots, but they will produce new offsets in clumps around their bases. These offsets can be left to develop into a dense clump or pulled off and transplanted. | September 29, 2022: Obtained plant (Ordered from Mountain Crest Gardens. Plant arrived well packaged and in excellent condition. Potted up, watered and placed in greenhouse. Will let it dry out per instructions for genus. Active growing season is Fall, Winter, Spring. It goes dormant in Summer. ) October 11, 2022: Winterized (Soaked in mild soap solution and used BT (Mosquito Bits) to prepare plant for overwintering. Moved indoors from greenhouse. ) |

Graptosedum (XGraptosedum) |
Have Tender Perennial (Michigan) Sedums and Succulents |
This is some type of Graptosedum -- probably Graptosedum 'Darley Sunshine' also sold as 'Francesco Baldi'. I've had pictures of this plant as a single back in October 2021. By Fall of 2022, I have multiple rosettes of this Graptosedum. This one was susceptible to a fungus in overwintering. I've added a fan and may treat based on comments in the Succulents and Sedums forum. I took pictures of the fungus. |
