VERY EARLY SPRING (Jan-Feb)
"honey-scented flowers blanket the ground in a carpet of shimmering gold. They flower at the same time as snowdrops, and are the perfect choice in the lawn, a rock garden or under shrubs and trees. They naturalize easily by self-seeding"
Native to damp woodland and shady places in Eurasia. Will naturalize under deciduous shrubs and trees. One of the first flowers of the new year.

LATE WINTER/EARLY SPRING (Jan-Feb)
Plant bulbs as soon as possible to prevent them drying out, in naturalistic drifts 10cm (4in) deep in September or October. Where bulbs are planted in grass do not cut the grass until after the leaves have died right back. Divide large colonies after flowering while the leaves are still green for use in other moist, well-drained areas.

LATE WINTER/EARLY SPRING (Jan-Feb)
The first flowers of the year. "Their name comes from the Greek words 'gala', meaning milk, and 'anthos', meaning flower. Robust and tolerant of most soil types, wild snowdrops are commonly found on wooded upland and rocky outcrops throughout Europe and Western Asia, generally flowering from January to March. Named after H.J. Elwes (1846-1922), an English sportsman and plant collector who collected the original plants in N.W. Turkey, G. elwesii is actually native to the extended area of Yugoslavia, Romania and the Ukraine, south to Greece and western Turkey. Plants will seed readily, but tend to hybridise. To redistribute true to name, every 2-3 years lift and divide 'in the green' after flowering from March to May. Replant bulbs and take care to water in well."
