[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Nepal') | Posted on October 5, 2016 ]

Satisfactory yield of medium-sized tomatoes with good taste. One plant in a shadier location did not do as well as another in the sun. Grew 5-6' tall.

[ Jalapeno Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Early Jalapeno') | Posted on December 15, 2015 ]

As much heat as I can stand, but less than habaneros. Very good yield, but it turns green in mid-season, not early, and waits until late season to turn red. Grew well both in the ground and fairly well in 3gallon containers.

[ Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Gypsy') | Posted on December 15, 2015 ]

Good sweet taste and good yield both in the ground and in 3gallon containers.

[ Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Carmen') | Posted on December 15, 2015 ]

Good flavor but only average yield. Grew ok both in the ground and in 3gallon containers.

[ Bell Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Colossal') | Posted on December 15, 2015 ]

Not very "colossal," only 3-4" for me. Yielded fewer fruits than my other bell peppers.

[ Bell Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Big Bertha') | Posted on December 15, 2015 ]

Large fruit, often over 6" long but stuff-able. Slow to turn red so picked most green. OK production, both in the ground and in 3gallon containers.

[ Eggplant (Solanum melongena 'Lavender Touch') | Posted on November 26, 2015 ]

Mild flavor, pretty appearance, few seeds, 3 or more fruits per plant, mid-late harvest. Will grow again.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Berkeley Tie-Dye, Pink') | Posted on August 18, 2015 ]

I grew two Pink Tie Dye plants this year, one in the ground in an area that doesn't get a full day of sun and one in a large (~6gal) container. The first plant had a small yield of fruits with a handsomely striped skin and an intense taste that is comparable to Cherokee Purple, my favorite tomato. The container plant produced more fruit, but they were more shriveled and didn't look as nice, even though they were in full sun. We had a long stretch without rain, so it is possible that I didn't water enough, but I won't try this variety in a container again.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Mountain Fresh') | Posted on August 12, 2015 ]

Grew Mountain Fresh for the first time this year. Put two plants in containers (3-gallon and 4-gallon) in the sun and got good yields of blemish-free 3" globes with a quite acceptable taste for a hybrid. One plant in a more shaded location took a week longer to ripen and had fewer fruits. I gave away a lot of tomatoes last week and people grabbed these first because of their pristine appearance.

[ Cucumber (Cucumis sativus 'Suhyo Long') | Posted on August 3, 2015 ]

Suhyo cukes are one of my favorites for fresh eating with a crisp texture and sweet taste. They can grow up to 18" long or more and tend to curl up on the ground, but are straighter when grown on a trellis. They have a bristly skin that some like to remove before eating, but the bristles rub off easily. Although I usually only get 2 or 3 from one plant, they produce as much fruit as my other favorites (Diva and Burpless) because of their size, and their shape makes for interesting conversations.

[ Cucumber (Cucumis sativus 'Suhyo Long') | Posted on July 18, 2015 ]

Also known as Suyo Long. Spiny skin that some people may like to pare before eating, or just rub with water to remove spines. I harvest them at 10-15" long. They tend to curl but are straighter when grown on a trellis or string. Quite tasty and an interesting variation on standard cucumber shapes.

[ Cucumber (Cucumis sativus 'Diva') | Posted on July 17, 2015 ]

Good crunchy taste and fairly good yield. Supposedly scab and mildew resistant. One of my favorite standard cukes for eating fresh.

[ Cucumber (Cucumis sativus 'National Pickling') | Posted on July 17, 2015 ]

I don't pickle, but these are ok for eating fresh if you get them young. Just not my favorite salad cuke. If they get too large, they tend to turn an unattractive orange-yellow. Good yield.

[ Cucumber (Cucumis sativus 'Burpless') | Posted on July 17, 2015 ]

I'm growing four different kinds of cukes this year and Burpless seems to have the best yield. They taste ok, nothing special. I never seem to burp when eating any kinds of cucumbers so I can't speak to their reputed eponymous quality. (Edited in 2016: yield went down considerably.)

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Moravsky Div') | Posted on July 14, 2015 ]

Moravsky Div is usually one of the first tomatoes to ripen in my garden. Even does ok in part shade. Size a bit bigger than a cherry, but just right for salads. Fruit seems to ripen over a short time--perhaps semi-determinate. I have to pick when first blush appears so birds don't peck at them. Taste ok, but not spectacular. Good yield.

[ Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Golden Treasure') | Posted on October 9, 2014 ]

Grew in a pot in Zone 6. Small plant but had five 5-7" long mild peppers on it.
