[ Peony (Paeonia 'Silver Dawn Mix') | Posted on July 1, 2023 ]

Very Early Bloomer is correct. Mine flowers the 3-4th week of May in my zn 5 southern NH garden - easily 2 weeks before the bulk of peonies in the area at 6/10

[ Violet (Viola 'Red Giant') | Posted on June 15, 2022 ]

I would describe this color, ironically, as "violet" - it's sort of a purple magenta. Not really red IMO

[ Lenten Rose (Helleborus x hybridus Walberton's® Rosemary) | Posted on June 15, 2022 ]

Note - As shown in the cover photo, this Hellebore holds its flowers facing up! No nodding flowers on this variety. Beautiful pink-salmon color as well.

[ Longleaf Lungwort (Pulmonaria 'Little Star') | Posted on June 15, 2021 ]

The photo shown here for this little pulmonaria shows typical pulmonaria purple/blue flowers. But, like the other commenter I have this plant and it has COBALT BLUE flowers that are amazing. Not even a hint of purple. I haven't got a photo of it, but I'll try to remember to get one next spring and post to show the actual color. Hardy, interesting foliage (which does not seem to get mildewy like some, and amazing blue flowers. Definitely a keeper.

[ Bigleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla Cityline™ Rio) | Posted on June 14, 2021 ]

This plant is not flower hardy in zone 5. It will survive, but dies back to the ground every year, effectively preventing flowers on the old wood.

[ Mophead Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla Forever & Ever® Pistachio) | Posted on June 14, 2021 ]

This variety is not flower hardy in Zn 5 - its supposed coldest zone. The plant exists, but dies back to the ground every year. Out of 5 plants, I have seen 1 flower in about 8 years.

[ Common Lilac (Syringa vulgaris 'Primrose') | Posted on May 13, 2021 ]

I completely agree with the previous reviewer. After several years of waiting, I received WHITE buds, with WHITE flowers. I have no idea how the photos of YELLOW lilacs were taken, because there is no way the plant that I purchased as Primrose looks even remotely yellow. And I have excellent color vision, lol. Quite a disappointment, and I hope others who read this don't spend their time and money on this one.

[ Leopard Plant (Ligularia 'Dragon Wings') | Posted on March 9, 2021 ]

I have found this to be a VERY slow grower here in my zn 5 garden. I have many Ligs and this one just sits and sits....I've moved her a time or two (over several years) and it doesn't seem to matter. Or, maybe I just haven't found her 'happy place' yet.

[ Hybrid Hardy Hibiscus (Hibiscus 'Kopper King') | Posted on October 28, 2019 ]

In my Zn 5 New England garden the (Japanese and other?) beetles absolutely devour this plant. I don't like to spray (Because I'd be doing it weekly!) so by the end of the season, this plant is literally naked. It's a shame because it's a great plant, but wow. They should include it in those 'bug bag traps' and they'd be more effective :\

[ Golden Japanese Spikenard (Aralia cordata 'Sun King') | Posted on October 25, 2019 ]

In my zone 5 garden; in part sun and moist, humus rich soil, it has not grown larger than 12-18" and is devoured by some kind of insect each year. Since we're going into year 3, I may have to move it in hopes of finding its 'happy place'... LOL!

[ Bugbane (Actaea racemosa 'Atropurpurea') | Posted on September 23, 2019 ]

SUPER Fragrant!

I did not realize the flowers are very fragrant, and smell like grape to me. A pleasant surprise!

[ Foamy Bells (XHeucherella 'Burnished Bronze') | Posted on May 13, 2019 ]

I have had one of these for probably 5 years. It never gets any bigger, and seems to be constantly on the verge of collapse. Generally weak, in my opinion.

[ Foamy Bells (XHeucherella 'Buttered Rum') | Posted on May 13, 2019 ]

I have been collecting heuchera and heucherella for many years, and have had several varieties of Heucherella...none of which have been particularly outstanding...Except for this one. This plant is hardy (I am in Zone 5, though I do have this planted on the east side of the house and it only gets a couple of hours of noontime sun). It grows at a faster clip than any other heucherella I have had, and seems unfazed by anything that happens in the garden. Definitely worth having.

[ Elderberry (Sambucus racemosa Lemony Lace™) | Posted on May 6, 2019 ]

I ordered this in 2017, and was disappointed to get a tiny 4" pot (for like $20), but potted it up in a 3-4 gallon pot and have been heeling it in for the last 2 winters (in zn. 5). It's now about 2' tall or more and going to flower for the first time this year.

I haven't decided if I'll put it in a bigger pot and plant that in its final location or if I'll take my chances with the suckers. I do have a pair of sharp pruners :)

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Lullaby Baby') | Posted on June 20, 2018 ]

This is the closest I have seen to an a white daylily. And, it is very floriferous!

[ Silver Sage (Salvia argentea) | Posted on June 25, 2017 ]

I've noticed that these lose their grey fuzzy look and take on a greener appearance when in flower.

[ Coral Bells (Heuchera villosa 'Beaujolais') | Posted on August 1, 2016 ]

I have grown this plant in a couple of locations. I know that many Heucheras tolerate or maybe even prefer the soil on the dry side. The trio of this plant that I have gets hit by my lawn irrigation every other day (45 minutes/zone), and is quite happy. It also only gets a couple of hours of sun, around noon-2 pm, and doesn't seem to mind that either, though it got more sun and less water in the other location. It appears quite versatile.

[ Geranium (Geranium thunbergii 'Jester's Jacket') | Posted on May 6, 2016 ]

Comes true from seed, but does not develop its characteristic foliage coloring until the 2nd season, when it starts out coral-pink. Spreads extensively from a single plant in many directions, but dies back to the main plant at the end of the season. Low growing -- a good foil to taller plants.

[ Pot Phlox (Phlox paniculata 'Sherbet Cocktail') | Posted on May 6, 2016 ]

Flower coloration is very interesting, but flowering is generally light. Does not seem predisposed to mildew.

[ Phlox 'Peacock Neon Purple' | Posted on May 6, 2016 ]

Shows good resistance to powdery mildew. Flowers heavily if not discovered by the deer, which love it, of course.
