[ Spicy Jatropha (Jatropha integerrima) | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

Butterflies and hummers are attracted to this plant. Here in north Florida it needs to be over wintered in my GH where it blooms pretty much all winter.

[ Angel Trumpet (Brugmansia 'Andrew's Gold') | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

The blooms on this brug are large and golden yellow. It was hybridized by Brenda Delph and named for my grandson. The cross is DJ's CanCan Girl x Monkey Shine.

[ Angel Trumpet (Brugmansia 'Adeline') | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

The blooms on Adeline are among the larger double pinks.

[ Forked Blue Curls (Trichostema dichotomum) | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

This is a native plant in Florida. The leaves have a rather pungent odor. I'm not sure whether it will overwinter outside this far north. Mine came from Lutz (Tampa area). Kept it in the GH last year. This year I have left some outside, so come spring we shall see.

[ Walking Iris (Trimezia gracilis) | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

When this is planted in the ground, it will send out runners with a bloom on the end. Once the bloom is spent, a new plant forms and roots where it touches the ground. Hence the name "walking iris." The new plant can also be cut off the runner and planted wherever you want another one to grow.

[ Devil's Trumpet (Datura metel 'Triple Yellow') | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

The thorns on the seed pod of this datura are very sharp. When you see the pod start to crack, cut it off and put in a container with a lid. Once fully dried, shake to dislodge the seeds. Your fingers will thank you.

[ Devil's Trumpet (Datura metel 'Black Currant Swirl') | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

The seed pod on this datura is green and purple. The thorns are not as sharp as on some others.

[ Royal Fern (Osmunda regalis) | Posted on December 6, 2011 ]

This is one cool looking fern! Wonderful images

[ Hooker's Orchid Cactus (Epiphyllum hookeri) | Posted on December 4, 2011 ]

My plant tends to grow like a "wild child" and looks rather homely. Its arms/leaves can be either flat or triangle shaped. It grows "air" roots and seems to do best when pot bound. When you see white showing on the bud, it most likely will bloom that night. The blooms are delecate looking and, to my nose, smell like clove. Most definitely worth getting up in the middle of the night to see and smell.

[ Chinese Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis) | Posted on November 24, 2011 ]

I love wisteria, but if you are not careful it will take over your world! I like to pull the vines/runners and make wreathes to decorate.

[ Donkey Ears (Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri) | Posted on November 11, 2011 ]

Got this plant at a swap. When I was told it made babies along the leaves, I thought: "Oh, no. Another mother of thousands!" So far it has been very well behaved for me, producing babies, but not taking over the world.

[ Pink Wood Sorrel (Oxalis debilis) | Posted on November 11, 2011 ]

Some would consider this invasive. I suppose to an extent it is. It has popped up in many of my pots, but I really don't mind as I love the pretty flowers. It's a nice groundcover under taller potted plants.

[ Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) | Posted on November 11, 2011 ]

At Christmas when I make wreaths, I add cuttings of this...the blue of the berries adds color and interest.

[ Lifesaver Plant (Ceropegia zebrina subsp. zebrina) | Posted on September 29, 2011 ]

The bloom on this is sooo cool...looks just like a cherry lifesaver that has been "glued" to the plant.

[ Moonflower (Ipomoea alba) | Posted on September 27, 2011 ]

I love this plant! Not only is it pretty, but it also smells wonderful. It is fun to sit and watch it open up. Had one that was almost open and when I went to sniff, it "exploded" in my face...way cool.

[ Purple Verbena (Verbena canadensis 'Homestead Purple') | Posted on September 18, 2011 ]

This plant grows for me here in Fountain, Fl. It comes back if left outside in a pot over the winter. Butterflies go for it, as do the hummers.
