Absolutely love this semp! One of my all time favorites. Goes through many color changes, but unlike most semps this one has fantastic colors even during the hottest part of the summer. It's a large plant with many of mine being 9" +. I have it planted in several places in my yard and it looks a bit different in every area, but always beautiful. Produces lots of chicks once established. Give it plenty of room to grow.

Great semp, quite large and goes through lots of color changes. Produces many offsets, so give it plenty of room to grow. An added bonus is the beautiful watermarks. Most semps have pink flowers, but this has a creamy off-white flower with a green stripe down each petal, and the flower stalks are huge!

[ Dunce's Cap (Orostachys iwarenge) | Posted on September 2, 2015 ]

One of my very favorite plants! The unusual gray color really stands out in the gardens. I find it self-seeds readily, but it blooms very late in our zone 4 summer so it doesn't always have time to set seed before it freezes. It's a fragile plant with tiny stems, but despite that, it does well. In winter it dies back to the point that it looks dead, but it quickly comes to life again in the spring.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Oddity') | Posted on September 2, 2015 ]

I find 'Oddity' to be quite temperamental when planted in the ground in our zone 4 climate. It tends to rot in the spring from too much moisture when the snow melts. I built a bit of a mound for it this summer with lots of grit incorporated into the soil. We'll see if that helps.

[ Sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile 'Neon') | Posted on January 3, 2015 ]

Love the bright color on these flowers! The plant itself is quite compact for an upright stonecrop, but with the bright color it sure stands out in my garden. One of my favorites!

[ Stonecrop (Hylotelephium spectabile 'Jaws') | Posted on January 3, 2015 ]

The leaves on this plant are very interesting -- deeply serrated and definitely reminiscent of the movie "Jaws"! In my garden it grew to maturity very quickly. The flowers are pretty, but I think the leaves make this one a real standout. Plant toward the front of your border to be best enjoyed so the large flower heads don't cover the leaves.

This semp has nice watermarks and displays beautiful color year-round. It propagates at a medium rate, but the chicks grow at a rather slow pace. One of my favorites!

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Pacific Hepsport') | Posted on April 9, 2014 ]

"There is no information about P. Hepsport being a sport of 'Hep' although it does have a strong tendency to produce red streaks. As for tracing it back to Gary Gossett, there were several named Pacifics that came from seedlings selected by Gary, but were not necessarily named by him, so the origin of the name is not certain." --Thank you to Don at SMG for sharing this information with us.

[ Clematis 'Ashva' | Posted on February 14, 2014 ]

Very pretty little blooms, but not a real vigorous plant for me here in zone 4. Took quite a few years for it to get established, but worth the wait because the flowers are unique. The colors really are bright and don't fade even though my plant is in full sun all day.

[ Clematis 'Daniel Deronda' | Posted on February 14, 2014 ]

One of my first clematises and still my favorite, it's always loaded with big blooms. The flowers show many unique characteristics in shape, shading, singles, doubles, colored tips, etc. I recently added another to my collection because of its superior performance.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Pfalzer Nebel') | Posted on January 1, 2014 ]

Extremely heavy webbing on this plant! Rather small but a good producer.

[ Sedum (Petrosedum rupestre subsp. rupestre 'Angelina') | Posted on October 7, 2013 ]

'Angelina' always attracts attention in the garden. No matter what time of year it is, the colors always stand out. It's an easy plant to root and spreads nicely, but it's also easy to remove because of its shallow root system. Looks nice planted under dark-leaved companion plants.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Xandra') | Posted on July 28, 2013 ]

Nice little plant that shows pretty webbing all year.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Viking') | Posted on July 28, 2013 ]

One of my favorite semps. It maintains its beautiful purple color all year, has nice form and prominent watermarks.

[ Houseleek (Sempervivum 'Pink Delight') | Posted on July 28, 2013 ]

This is a very nice plant. I love the form, color and leaf shape, and as it matures, it gets faint watermarks.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Pacific Hepsport') | Posted on July 6, 2013 ]

This plant is an amazing color of bright green that just pops in my garden.

[ Sedum (Hylotelephium SunSparkler® Dazzleberry) | Posted on June 6, 2013 ]

This plant has beautiful bright purple stems. Very attractive plant. It's somewhat "leggy" in a container.

[ Gypsophila (Gypsophila aretioides) | Posted on March 8, 2013 ]

Forms hard creeping cushions with very tiny foliage. Very seldom flowers, but when it does, the flowers are nearly stemless. Does well in alkaline, high-calcium, well-draining soil.

[ Dianthus (Dianthus freynii) | Posted on March 7, 2013 ]

One of the tiniest dianthus, forms a small mound with a texture that feels like tufted moss. Requires excellent drainage in winter. Slow grower. Will do well in a trough.

[ White-Eyed Ice Plant (Delosperma basuticum) | Posted on March 7, 2013 ]

One of the hardiest delosperma. Requires good drainage in winter. Once established is very drought tolerant. Color of flowers has been described as "screaming yellow" with a white eye.
