[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Oktoberfest') | Posted on May 26, 2013 ]

True bright orange. Really stands out in the garden. Clay soil, afternoon shade.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Texas Beautiful Bouquet') | Posted on May 26, 2013 ]

Fast increase, substantial blooms, really nice display. :-)

[ Penstemon 'Strawberry Taffy' | Posted on May 17, 2013 ]

First year. Clay soil, little amendments. Planted on the east side of this bed, so it gets morning sun, then is shaded overhead by a large tree and from the west side by bolstering daylily plants in the afternoon. Will have to see whether it survives North Central Texas' summertime.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Impressionist') | Posted on May 14, 2013 ]

First year in my yard. No information yet on vigor, etc. Is planted in clay soil with a LOT of 2-3 inch rocks (think a previous owner many years ago had put in a parking pad there)

[ Rose (Rosa 'Wild Thing') | Posted on May 12, 2013 ]

Near-lethal thorns. Smiling Survived Dallas-area drought, 15 degree to 110 degree temps, no supplemental water, two moves, heavy clay soil, sandy soil, and severe pruning without missing a beat.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Nature Meillandecor') | Posted on May 12, 2013 ]

Heavy clay soil. In worst part of yard--lots of hot sun, baking concrete on both sides, little supplemental water.

[ Tickseed (Coreopsis 'Jethro Tull') | Posted on May 12, 2013 ]

Heavy clay soil. Planted at base of Just Joey and Opening Night roses. In shade much of the day. Might be why the flowers are much shorter than another JT in a different location of the yard?

[ Bigflower Coreopsis (Coreopsis 'Early Sunrise') | Posted on May 12, 2013 ]

Unamended heavy clay soil. In shade from about 12:00 to 4:00, then again after about 5:30-6:00.

[ Penstemon (Penstemon digitalis 'Dark Towers') | Posted on May 9, 2013 ]

First year for this plant. Is said to do well in the area.

[ Mealycup Sage (Salvia farinacea 'Victoria Blue') | Posted on May 6, 2013 ]

Wilts in North Central Texas' summer heat without supplemental water, but comes back strong every year.

[ Clematis Filigree™ | Posted on April 16, 2013 ]

Moved it out of a container to in-ground and the color depth has some catching up to do. Still good considering I thought it lost to the drought last year.

[ Oregano (Origanum vulgare 'Aureum') | Posted on April 15, 2013 ]

I like it as a ground cover. Remarkably drought resistant. Not saying it can go without water all summer, especially in our area, but it is very forgiving.

[ Hellebore (Helleborus Gold Collection® Pink Frost) | Posted on March 15, 2013 ]

My first Hellebore. Didn't know it starts out ivory and slowly changes to mottled pink, then green. Thought I had mislabeled it. :-D

[ Rose (Rosa 'Zephirine Drouhin') | Posted on February 12, 2013 ]

I planted one of these roses at my sister's house. On the north side and with a roof overhang, that area only gets an hour or so of morning sun and is in shade the rest of the day. While it does not flower as abundantly as it would with more sunshine, it does set flower and flourish. Might not do so well with NO sun in full shade, but I would be very comfortable in saying it should be fine planted in a shady area.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Orange Harvest') | Posted on November 18, 2012 ]

Reliable rebloomer in the Dallas area.

[ Clematis (Clematis florida 'Sieboldii') | Posted on November 12, 2012 ]

This clematis is extraordinarily adaptable. I have heavy clay soil, it is planted in one of the hottest parts of the yard close to concrete sidewalks and between two concrete driveways, and receives little supplemental water. Gets crispy brown during the summer, but always comes back to bloom again in November and December.
