[ Bishop's Weed (Aegopodium podagraria 'Variegatum') | Posted on November 26, 2013 ]

Aegopodium was very invasive here and I was thrilled to eliminate it.

[ Fern-Leaf Yarrow (Achillea filipendulina 'Gold Plate') | Posted on November 26, 2013 ]

This yarrow was the first plant given to me by the real PIRL and I treasure it.

[ Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Tardiva') | Posted on November 25, 2013 ]

The roots of Tardiva are numerous and many are at or near the surface. I would not plant anything around it that has deep roots or you'll struggle to dig out the plants.

[ Hardy Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum x rubellum 'Clara Curtis') | Posted on November 25, 2013 ]

It spreads quite wide but it's so easy to pluck new growth in spring and plant it elsewhere or give it to another gardener.

[ Lily (Lilium 'Paraguay') | Posted on November 24, 2013 ]

Not at all as the stock photo captures the color as it blooms here. Beautiful bloom but disaster if I had planted it thinking the company photo was accurate since I do garden by the color echoes theory. I'm so glad I potted it up and didn't trust the photo the company showed. I've had enough disasters with colors or names not being what they should have been.

[ Lily (Lilium 'Oscar') | Posted on November 24, 2013 ]

Died the second year.

[ Lily (Lilium 'Sweet Kiss') | Posted on November 24, 2013 ]

Blooms here 6/22 to 7/13.

[ Bigleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Harlequin') | Posted on November 23, 2013 ]

Harlequin has many more colors to the blooms than I've posted. It's an ever changing delight in the garden.

It is meant for a larger spot than where I have it, so now and then I do give it a very hard pruning and it still blooms well.

Easy to layer as well.

[ Lily (Lilium 'Orange Electric') | Posted on November 22, 2013 ]

Died the first year. Highly uncommon for any Asiatic to die here.

[ Lily (Lilium 'Stunning') | Posted on November 22, 2013 ]

Stunning opens with quite a bit of yellow in the bloom but gradually fades to a creamy vanilla. It's beautiful all of the time and nice to see the changes happening.

[ Lance-leaf Caladium (Caladium 'Pink Lipstick') | Posted on November 21, 2013 ]

Each leaf varies a bit in design.

Deer shredded them and left me with bare stems.

[ Fancy-Leaf Caladium (Caladium 'Grey Ghost') | Posted on November 21, 2013 ]

Had I been aware of just how large these mammoth bulbs would grow, I'd have put each one in a separate pot.

[ Hosta 'Sum and Substance' | Posted on November 15, 2013 ]

Too big for my taste. I'd love to sell it but last time I tried to take a chunk from it I had to use a saw and it took a long time.

[ Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica 'Powhatan') | Posted on November 14, 2013 ]

Various sites say 'Powhatan' grows to 20' tall. I'll be 85 by the time that happens. Maybe it's grown a foot in 7 years. I do love the plant and I'm happy with it but just don't expect fast growth.

[ Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica 'Powhatan') | Posted on November 14, 2013 ]

Powhatan was moved from the rose garden to the Belmont garden in 2010. That's why some captions read differently than others.

[ Clematis (Clematis viticella 'Venosa Violacea') | Posted on November 14, 2013 ]

The color for Venosa Violacea is shown as purple. Is there a way to add the secondary color of near white?

[ Clematis 'Ashva' | Posted on November 13, 2013 ]

True that it's not a huge bloom but each bloom is perfect. I'll measure the size next year since I know some people are obsessed by size.

[ Clematis 'Omoshiro' | Posted on November 13, 2013 ]

2012 was a very warm spring so blooms began opening in late April to early May.
