This plant will emerge with golden leaves, the centre of which gradually turns green leaving a gold margin. New leaves through the season will also be gold at first.
By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Jun 24, 2012 12:03 PM concerning plant: Hosta 'Gold Drop'
In spite of its name, this one never really looks gold, at least in my garden. It emerges green and by late spring has acquired a slight golden hue to the leaves.
This plant emerges with the centres of the leaves pure white - at least in my zone. Sometimes they will mist up and sometimes later leaves have the misted colour, but not always.
This hosta is not registered as of June 2012. Internet resources refer to it both as 'Bell Ringer' AND 'Bellringer'. The Mark R. Zillis "Hostapedia" uses 'Bell Ringer'.
This is one of the most slug resistant hostas in my garden. 2011 was a very wet year- great year for the slugs. At the end of August 'Rainbow's End' was virtually intact while all the small hostas around it were lace. It's a WONDERFUL plant.
I used to grow this Hosta and I remember the hummingbirds coming up to the white flowers and getting nectar from them. I always loved that every Summer!
Embroidery is a very unique but unstable Hosta. It was in demand for some time but the excitement has lessened as it is so difficult to grow and reverts loosing it's unusual look.
Also known as H. montana 'Choko Nishiki'. Hosta 'On Stage' is a sport of H. montana. Bright, golden-yellow, thick leaves with irregular green margins. A fast grower. Sun and Slug resistant.
A sport of H. 'Paul's Glory', this plant has the opposite colors of its parent with dark green leaves and yellow to gold margins which are heavily corrugated. Pale lavender flowers open in midsummer.
