My biggest customer for gardening has had an old large specimen of this dissected cultivar since I worked there from 2003 to 2020. It has gotten somewhat bigger since I started. 'Viridis' is the catch-all term for all green dissected selections. The dissected variety of Japanese Maples are supposed to be very carefully pruned every several years to make sure that heavy snow will not be breaking branches. There are some people and companies that specialize in some of their work with such careful Japanese style of pruning. Slow growing, expensive woody plant. The famous huge nursery of Lake County Nursery in Perry, Ohio just south of Lake Erie grows 'Viridis' and three dissected red-leaved forms of 'Crimson Queen, Inabe Shidare, and Super Red' and lists them as good for Zone 5a. I have seen Dissected Japanese Maples occasionally planted in the Mid-Atlantic all over the place, but I can't think of seeing them in the Upper Midwest. Wherever they are planted they need lots of room to spread, and not be shoved into a small space near the front door or foundation.

I have had this tree in a large pot for 15+ years and it does well. It is susceptible to sunburn in our hot Utah sun so is kept in mostly shade. I have trimmed it several times with no problems.
