'Top Hat' is a lowbush blueberry developed by Michigan State University. It is especially dense and compact, growing only to about 2 feet by 2 feet. It bears very sweet and flavorful medium/large berries in early to mid-summer. It does not require a different blueberry variety to produce lots of berries but a companion is helpful. 'Top Hat' has attractive blue-green leaves that turn fiery red in the fall before falling off. It prefers full sun or light shade and well drained, acidic soil. This little shrub has a nice compact shape and very good fall color. It makes a good container plant or an effective deciduous foundation plant. It has grown well for me here in Middle TN.
