Butterfly Bush (Buddleja 'Miss Molly') produces scads of blossoms that are a beautiful, distinctive magenta color. This cultivar, bred from Buddleja Miss Ruby x Attraction, was developed at North Carolina State University. The magenta color is said to be variable, tending to be more red in warmer climates and more purple in cooler areas. In my zone 7a garden, it is a vibrant, almost incandescent sangria color.

Butterflies and bees are attracted to Buddleja, and it is a larval host plant for the Chalcedon Checkerspot, a butterfly found in the western United States.

Although widely used as an ornamental shrub, Buddleja davidii has unfortunately proven invasive in many temperate regions, including in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada. Within the United States, it has been classified as a noxious weed in Oregon and Washington, and its sale is also restricted in Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
